California man defies lottery odds

BELMONT, California (AP) -- Angelo Gallina beat the odds and then some.

In a single day, he won the $17 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot and the $126,000 Fantasy 5 top prize.

"I think I'll eat cake," Gallina told lottery officials after his November 20 wins. He said he would also buy a new car and a home for his grown children.

State lottery officials put the odds for the SuperLotto contest win at 1-in-41 million. The odds of winning the separate Fantasy 5 contest were 1-in-575,000.

Figuring out the odds of one person winning both draws on the same day requires a calculator and lots of zeros.

"One in 23 trillion," said Mike Orkin, a professor of statistics at California State University at Hayward, who arrived at the number by multiplying 41 million by 575,000.

Yeah I have been interviewing everywhere. I was working at Circuit City- that sucked donkey balls. Wasn't making shit- like 3 bucks an hour. I am trying to get into Costco or CompUSA. Wish me luck, I dont wanna be unemployed over the holliday, that would really blow.

Yeah it is straight commission and they didn't tell me I was on it until I had been on the floor for 2 weeks. I thought I was still hourly like the manager had told me. Fucked up shit. I got my check and was like- WTF?!?!

I am so sick of not being able to make good money. I was stupid to leave my job in FL. I was making good money then. Oh well, hindsight right? I am thinking of moving to Scottsdale in 6 months. Cheaper than here.

Exactly. A small group of people make good money and everyone else scrambles for the crumbs. You basically have to sell mad big screens or you dont make jack. Fuck all that. They make allot off their extended warranties. They shove that shit down your throat.
