on the go breakfast?

most weekday mornings I am on the train very early visiting clients...

what is a good "on the go" first meal?

keep in mind I have no access to a refrigerator, microwave etc. so egg whites/oatmeal etc isn't possible..

I can't fathom eating chicken/turkey/tuna at 7 am...and a shake is out of the question, i get nauseous often on the train and have to have something solid...

I've been eating low carb protein bars, but after everyone says how bad they are...:(

any ideas?

I don't know - I'm kind of with you on the protein bars - when you're traveling, they are the easiest thing to use. No refrigeration, easy to toss in your bag...

I know they are processed, have sugar alcohols, etc., but when you're an active traveler, they are a lifesaver.

yup...believe me it would be sooo easy to grab a bagel/muffin high carb/sugar product on the train...

at least with the bars Im getting some protein....

Man I really dont think protein bars are that bad. IMO everyone complicates things being too technical etc. I eat them every morning and I know a lot of ripped up model type guys that live on them. I think they are the best bet when it comes to an on the run situation. At my new job I am going to have to use them for two of my meals throughout the day which I dont want to do but I think they will work.

Off the top of my head - what's wrong with hardboiled eggs? Or homemade protein bars? At least you know exactly what you're getting if you make the latter, with no hidden sugar alcohols or processed crap.

My old powerlifting coach used to make frozen "protein balls" - don't know the measurements, but you mix nat peanut butter w/ whey powder and honey, roll it into balls, and freeze them.

Ummm... could you expand on this please?

Pretty much what JJFigure said - mix up some natural peanut butter, protein powder, honey, and possibly oats or dried fruit, until it's a viscous lumpy mess. Then spread it out on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet, freeze, and cut into bars when solid. Kind of like rice krispie treats, but healthy. I saw the exact recipe on either the Women's Forum or Muscle Food recently - I'll try to unearth it later if you haven't yet found it yourself...

Pretty good, actually. Problem is if you're on a restricted carb diet - doesn't really meet the needs for that kind of diet.

cook some instant oatmeal, chuck it in a lunchbox with some protein powder. Bring a spoon. Eat on train.
