i'll argue about MLB. i liked it better without the Wild Card. two teams in each league.

the thing i like about the tourney is you see teams like Vermont, Nevada, Bucknell, Wichita etc get some upsets and ruin a big program.

NFL would be cool if all teams made the playoffs. youd def see some upsets.

the NFL is the way it is because it protects the integrity and value of the season
hockey and basketball allow too many
the season is relatively meaningless
MLB has it right too,with a 162 game schedule a "wildcard" component allows many teams to be in the race until the end
wiithout diluting the quality of the post-season participants
