Omega-3s enriched eggs are a good idea but eating "fat" fish is even a better idea

Omega-3s from eggs: As good as fish? (Reuter's news)

Omega-3 fatty acids from cold-water fish like salmon, albacore tuna, cod and halibut help prevent heart disease, maybe even depression and osteoporosis. But as an alternative, can you get enough omega-3s from special eggs that contain them?

While these eggs contain 100-150 milligrams of one of the two types of omega-3s in fish (much more than regular eggs have), 3 ounces of salmon provide 1-3 grams of both omega-3s.

"As an omega-3 source, these eggs are not a good substitute for fish," says Elizabeth Somer, M.A., R.D. But they do have much more vitamin E and a bit less saturated fat than ordinary eggs.
