Okay guys...are we training too often

I've been training with a good buddy of mine for the last 7 months, and I've never had gains like I've had since we've been training together. When we first started, we pretty much adopted his training schedule and shared ideas and whatnot...so for the last 7 months this has been our schedule.

mon- chest/tri's
tue- back/bi's
wed- legs/shoulders
thurs- chest/tri's
fri- back/bi's
sat- legs/shoulders
sun- off

This schedule has had SOME give and take, but you get the idea, blasting each bodypart twice a week, and from doing some recent research, I'm thinking (and have thought for awhile) that we may be overdoing it.
As far as results...well, as much as it hurts to admit :D I haven't gained much size, but a good deal of strength.

Here are my stats btw...and keep comments like "what strength?" to yourselves :D
6'0 170lbs 6.5bf%
bench- 1rm, 225
squat- 6rep, 405
DL- 6rep, 350...I just started doing DL, third time overall was today

Thanks in advance for any advice!

i always train everything 2x/ week, many people here do.

just keep the workout volume lower than if you were to work 1x week (keep weekly volume relatively the same.)

Those are some good poundages for your size. Nice work.

If the gains are still coming, I really don't think you should change the routine. But, and this is important, if you haven't been getting the size gains that you want then you need to eat more food. It's as simple as that. Eat more protein and clean carbs and you'll get your hypertrophy gains.

AARRGGHH, you bring up a good point about my eating habits. I am aware of the fact that I simply do not get enough calories...kinda frustrating, cuz let's face it, food gets expensive, lol.
I need to get caught up in some bills, and then I plan on improving this area of my training
Thanks!

What you eat is just about as important as what you do in the gym. If you don't have any bricks, you can't build a house. Ya dig? Cans of tuna, eggs and sweet potatoes don't cost that much.

large body parts, back and legs, i think maybe you want to train once a week. it depends what your overall goals are. bb maybe 2x a week. pl definitely once a week. most bodyparts you can train every four days.

main thing is if you want strength and it's stagnating, rest more
if you want to get bigger and your not, eat more

I do the exact thing as you, except legs and shoulders on different days. Once I do shoulders or legs first, I'm too tired to do the other. Therefore I separated those days and work body parts 2x/8-9 days.

LifterCA, I have that same problem with my shoulders/legs day...I just tough it out I guess, but am probably robbing myself of some gains...I have been considering dedicating a day to each

Most folks don't train often enough...or eat enough...or sleep enough...or...arrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhh....

YES!

There is nothing wrong with training muscle groups twice per week, but the program you presented shows that your shoulders are trained 6 days in a row!!

You should think about a one on one off routine.

When I see this split. . . I see the immune system crashing, severe muscular fatigue, and the inability for a muscle to recover sufficiently.

One more thing. . .I don't see how you can train back right before leg day.

I used to be a skinny bastard like you, I still consider myself one.. 5'11" at 140lbs... I found that mostly eating alot of protein and fat for the calories helps me gain.. rice and chicken doesn't cut it for my metabolism.. also, I don't use AS (yet)... I've been swaying between 175 to 195 for the last few years.. I can't train everything twice a week, I wouldn't make it.. unless I was on some juice...

Ok, at your hight and weight, you are very strong. However if you are that lean, and weigh that little it is not overtraining. It is your diet. You are simply not eating enough. I make my best gains training each bodypart more than once a week. I've compaired back and forth, because I have kept alot of notes over the last few years. I definately gain slower on a lower training frequincy. You are simply not eating enough. Especially with those kind of squat numbers.

Louden-

Actually, unless I am wrong- BBF is saying they guy needs to eat more cause he is actually squatting a LOT (ie, high demands on his system)

He did, but his genetically modified clone has comeback and started posting...

Awesome squatting for your bodyweight but, uh are those ass to the grass squats? I gotta ask because full squatting 405 for 6 should equal at LEAST a 325 bench IMO.

IMO youre training too much for a natty, but then fuck I cant handle 4 days a week juiced so maybe you've got better recovery ability :)

Hmm, ass to the grass....no, their not. I go a hair lower than the point at which my thighs are parallel with the floor....I make a concious effort to control the weight as I go down, and when I hit that parallel mark, drop a bit more in anticipation of the thrust upward.
Should I lighten the weight and go lower? I have to say this has worked for me pretty well so far...I'm pretty happy with 405lbs at my body weight and size of my legs, and I get a really good burn in my quads from my squat routine.
I'm open to any and all suggestions

You think that a 405lb squat for 6 reps is bad for a 170lb man??

I'd love to see your half ass squats.

Why the hell do you have to turn around everything I say, and try to insult me? 405 for 6 at 170 ibs is VERY impressive. Go back and read what I actually typed instead of just being an asshole. If he is squating like that, he should be growing rapidly. I don't think he is eating enough, if he is grinding out those type of numbers but is having trouble graining size/weight.

Lol So much anger BBF. Dont get your grape smugglers in a knot . :D just kidding dude, I respect your training opinions
