Ok! How the hell do you find, and keep, a solid workout partner??!!!

Do I have to pay for one? Damn, every partner I have had the last 6 months (3 in all) have all flaked after a couple of days of training, really upsetting. I'm coming off a month long layoff and I'm HUNGRY!!! I want to reach my goals, but I need a partner like a mofo.

Any advice?

Don’t worry about getting a partner. You will never find one that is 100% reliable. I’d suggest going to the gym at a consistent time, they will be other partner-less people that share the same workout time as you. Get to know them, this way you don’t have to rely on one particular person.

Only consider those that have already, over time, demonsrated the same drive as you to become a freak.

I have found after 14 years that the responsibilty lies solely within yourself. I hate to train alone myself but have come to get used to it. Right now I have a super RELIABLE partner but just doesnt have any fire. I just slip on a walkman for my sets, he spots if I need it and the job gets done. If you get too hung up on finding the perfect partner you will never be able to train alone

The last time I worked out with another person was almost a year ago. I don't use training partners. Just not for me....i hate people I guess....lol.

i prefer working out alone. i like to do things in a certain order and wait a certain amount of time between doing things. i feel other people screw up my timing. i generally do machines so i dont really need spots. sometimes it would be nice to have a little help on the last rep but no big deal. friends always say they are gonna go with me and i come up with a stupid reason that ill be going alone.

Have to agree with the general trend here - as long as people in your gym are cool about spotting, you don't really need a training partner. I find it easier to not have one - I'd be the one flaking out on him sometimes if I have to go to work early (I train at 5AM, but have to either move off days around or go at night sometimes if I have meetings timed for the London or Asian offices.) It's also easier to keep to a consistent set pacing when you train alone.

Some guys do seem to benefit from partners - I've seen partners who seem to feed off of each other's energy and drive. If that's what works for you , just put up a message on the gym bulletin board (or next to the key rack if your gym doesn't have a board somewhere) - if you go to a good-sized gym there's a strong chance that someone who trains at a different time of day is looking for a partner too. You (or he) might have to be flexible about times. Might even try putting up a message at other gyms if that doesn't work.

Just don't be one of those training teams who has to scream "PUSH IT! ONE MORE! YEAH! YOU CAN DO IT! YOU DA MAN!" EVERY damn rep of EVERY damn set, or one of us solo-trainers may be forced to beat you with an ez-curl bar :D

I have one...it's called a power rack. My little blue healer loves to watch though:)
