In taxes for the year with three months left to go.

I can only imagine what I could spend the wonderful bounty on if it were mine.

Intaxication: the feeling you get after receiving a tax refund. It lasts until you realise that the money was yours anyway.

More than half of it is going to old people who already had a chance to set up their futures.

Enjoy

Laugh if you want, but that is where most of your tax dollar goes.

Actually since I take 0 deductions most of that is going to the feds and state, SS is third in the denominations.

Plus I won't mind having it when I am old so I don't complain about that. I actually don't mind paying taxes It's just fun to think about what you could buy with that money. Besides it wasn't too long ago that I didn't make that much in a year.

SS and Medicare are intermingled with general income tax revenues; you don't have to be Al Gore to know there is no lockbox. It doesn't matter how many deductions you take.

SS money goes to buy Treasury securities (that's where most of the deficit comes from) and to pay beneficiaries.

Most Americans lack even a rudimentary understandng of how government finances itself. If the retirement system is still there when we retire I will buy you 100 Cuban cigars. SS return is currently about 1.5%, a money market would do better for you.

Never said I wasn't going to plan for my own retirement, just that I wouldn't mind getting SS when I get older.
