Images please.

Okay Cheffy..

the before:

And the after:

She and her sister both had cleft palates and had already undergone 23 surgeries to "fix" it...

Wow.

That truly must have changed her whole life! THAT is cool. I just went to the sight and saw her sisters gallery, complete life change.

Great for them. Cheers.

I saw it once or twice, amazing transformations, certainly to a needing audience.

If you look at the after's though, you can see that the hand of the surgeon has been very much involved.

I wonder how it changes their lives in general; not to be harsh, but, the "before" pics are horrid.....what kind of job can that person really get? The after pics are much nicer - does the person's life change the same way as their appearance?

Would be interesting to follow...

I think it definately changes their lives as much as their appearance. They have interviewed a couple of them after the fact and the most outstanding of their claims is their CONFIDENCE, something we`ve always talked about on EF, has risen to new levels. They take more risks, they look people in the eye when speaking to them, they`re more comfortable in social situations... etc...

That show always impresses me. Why are the teeth so dam expensive though? damn $60,000 wtf?

I caught the last half of it so I didn't see their before pictures until the end... but when they flashed up the before/after pics side by side I was blown away.

Well, I suppose they could be a chef, in the back of the restaurant, never come out, right? ;)

On a serious note, if you think there is no correlation between appearance and success, you're just plain blind, Broseph.

You saw the before pictures; who as an interviewer or manager is going to hire that person? Who is going to want them around? People are people, appearances play a large role in life, fair or unfair....

gonelifting - the teeth are implants that are anchored in the bone, they are huge bucks.

I am razzing you not because I think your wrong, but because it was the first thing that came to your mind: not how much happier they are with their looks, the boost in confidence, the better social life, how it must help to heal such deep phsycological scars... it's the MONEY. Its always about the MONEY.

I didn't mention all that other shit because it goes without saying. Plus it's boring.

Real change comes through increased opportunity and the accompanying peace of mind. That's not cheap, orbly.

Who cares if she's prettier than all the other girls in the trailer park? Does it really make a difference in her life?

Increased opportunity does.

It's never about the money. Never. It's always about the freedom to pursue personal growth and opportunity, to shape the life you want, rather than have it dictated to you by previously unremovable constraints.

That's change. A few slices and dices of the skull is cosmetic. But does change occur? that's my question.

Onward:

You espouse, as do many people, unintentionally perhaps, a belief that pursuit of wealth is always greed.

I'll be the first to tell you that money cannot buy happiness. When I was in the Army, I lived a comfortable life, (I was an officer) staunchly middle class, but always had enough money to live a little. Job security was great, lot of friends, fun times fo' sho'.

Things are different now. Yet I still miss the simple pleasures of military life. But what I do not miss is the imposition of external constraints on what I want to do. (Surely there still are some...but far fewer).I am glad to have the freedom to go places and do things when-the-hell-ever I want.

I see in your posts a certain understanding or belief that when one has enough to pay the bills plus "a little extra" they are done, happy, that is where life should be maintained.

Certainly that is a nice way to live life and a reasonable goal. Good family, friends, career etc. Wonderful stuff. As that comfort deepens, something happens. People look at people who work toward incresed wealth as "greedy" as if there is something bad about that.

Is it religious? A childhood criticism of the wealthy the Christianity teaches?
Is it parental? parents pass their own shortcomings on to their kids?
Is it self-made? The tendency to accept one's own point of view as superior?

I am not asking you because I think you are a victim of this outlook. I am asking because you're a smart, well-traveled guy and I am curious as to what you think about it.
