Ode to the smith bencher

Ode to the smith bencher
who holds his ass high
'cause that's the ways his bally's pt
told him to bp (sigh)

ode to the smith bencher,
who stacks the plates deep,
thought he doesn't realise,
his freeweight bench is still weak

They can bench in the smith machine, but I really wish they wouldn't use the other flat benches to sit on while they are curling, especially when there are two chair type benches sitting empty right beside them. :smash:

Personnal trainers teaching squat to fat ladies in the Smith machine is my favorite

How the fuck do you smith curl?

curl it lol

kinda akward, but I have seen it done.

The other day i saw to guys alternating on the leg press. In between sets they were eating a bag of Fritos LOL

Hell, let em use the smith.....more benches for moi........

Oh, and as for SMith squats, if you park your feet way out in front of you and go ass in the bucket, its simiulates the hack squat pretty nicely...........

With all the badass freeweight exercises, I don't understand why peeps rely on smith machines and leg press machines. For example, why simiulate a hack sq on a machine when you can do the real thing with a barbell?

Yeah but how often do you see someone using it for that purpose, why not just use the hack squat machine.

Not often.............and our hack squat machine is from the 60's...........I've used it twice and I'm pretty sure thats all the use its gotten...........rusted stiff.........closest thing is that machine based hack where you lay on your back.......

Hey don't knock it, one day if injured you might just have to use it for awhile too.

No. NO NO NO.
the best use for the smith machine is to hang my belt on it.

lol...
yes, thats my secret to benching so much... its on the smith machine and wnt2b is spotting me, doing smith upright rows.
with a real bar, i can't really bench over 55.
lol
my usual workout partner is a HUGE former competitive bodybuilder- like 265lbs i think... mostly muscle (and some wicked bitch tits, but thats besides the point). anyway, he's not really very strong for his size, just enormous and scary looking because of it (he's not tall). he's got a thick accent that nobody understand and he growls a lot. every time he goes to use the smith machine i call him a pussy and almost always someone looks at me like i'm out of my mind for mouthing off to him.

so wtnbeast is that nasty huh? I figured so

lol

oh stop. wnt2b is hot- he's doesn't live close enough for us to workout together every day or we would.
i usually workout with some british guy from my old gym and the woman he trains (or i train her when he's not around). and sometimes her son.

damn people are talking about me huh...

Dawg you should try to change your form a little and tuck your elbows more instead of 90 degrees..its impossible to tuck your elbows on a smith because the bar moves in a straight line ( which is not a good bench stroke)..

I know youre a BB'er but honestly a sinngle ply shirt will help with your shoulder..just something to think about and before you tell me that youll lose size look for pics of Andy Fiedler ryan kennelly and scott mendelson..something to think about..good luck

With my shoulder issue its impossible to do Heavy Bench with Barbell or Dumbbells(which I prefer). I still Bench but do it last as at least this way my chest is fatigued and I have to go way lighter.

With injuries its a matter of doing what I can that doesn't make the situation worse. Right now Smith and the Hammer machine are better options then nothing at all.

Will look into the shirt thing and see if that is an option until I am healed.

Thanks bro.

injuries suck..heel fast

I use the smith for bench all the time. I don't usually have a workout partner, and I go to absolute failure, so the smith makes life a lot easier on me.

Wouldn't you rather use the dumbbells to go to absolute failure, though?

Getting dumbs into postion at failure reps is a bitch for me.

After two shoulder surgeries I have to use the smith machine for military presses, but that's all so far.

Thanks bro, shoulder happens often, I am getting good working around it and letting it heal.

bigdawg, if you're interested in a bottom of the line used shirt to just help keeping your shoulder safe, i think i know where you can get one. is that you in your avatar? do you weigh in the high 200s? (don't be offended if you don't- you look 8ft tall)

A shade over 6 and am 252 at the moment.

Will do some reading on the shirts and let ya know.

Thanks!!

BigDawg, check out inzer shirts. i think it is inzer.com

I think the blast shirt would work for you.

Pigeon, why don't you just bench in the rack? That is what i do if i don't have a spotter. I set the pins a little below chest level.

thats what i was going to suggest, but i think i can find a used one for him. cheaper and just as good if he's not gonna compete.

Gotta luv those dudes walking around with their heads high cause they can put up 315 on the smith machine. News for you--all of us guys know you suck.

I think I am more amused at all the posts about this...........hey tough guys, let them f-ing use the smith.......relax, chill, and move on.........are the bothering you?

i would never buy a used shirt. plus, it is proly gonna be strecthed out. inzer will customize your shirt to fit your unique deminsions, i doubt a used shirt would ever fit right

So you must be a smith bencher huh? j/k

My fascination with the smith bencher is simple curiosity: why would a healthy "lifter" use a machine to replicate a very easy barbell exercise? ego thing, lazy thing what?

Yes they are bothering me-because they are fake. Not all of them, but you can tell which ones.

Do me a favor.........this year, do not let them bother you........you know the deal, you know who is stronger, that in itself should be enough.......everyone I see use it is either hurt, over 50 or female.........other than that, leave it be........(note to females- not saying you are "weak"lol....trust me, I've seen some strong females floating around on this board.......just stating what I've witnessed........)

I have a custom made inzer- obviously all my shirts have to be custom made but for most people that gets quite expensive and an off the rack size fits most people. I know a lot of people that use used shirts... if you use your own a few times, it doesn't become 'no good' and there are a lot of shirts floating around that were only used a few times. my shirts all look and fit the same as they day i got them.

dude----I had skin hanging off my hands to my kneecaps last year in the fire and have extensive nerve damage and I dont even use the smith. LOL-then again maybe I should. Ok-for your sake ill try and ignore the huge grunting sounds bellowing from the skinny dude doing 225 when he would get owned by 150 free weight. Really......I find it more humorous than anything.

Well I lift in the smith because I'm doing it solely for chest. I'm not worried about the stabilizers because I'm hitting them with other exercises. The smith lets me focus on just the pressing and not balancing.

My bench was one of my weakest lifts in the past and I kept stagnating using freeweights, but switching to the smith let me keep progressing.

I think I should also note that I'm doing a DC style workout, so I'm constantly changing exercises every few months to maintain constant strength increases, so I don't feel like I'm hurting myself by using the smith.
