Obama's Take on His Re-Election:

Obama: My Re-Election Based on Voters' Belief 'I've Been On Their Side' - FoxNews.com

Here's the relevant quote:

"What they're going to be asking themselves is who's got a better vision for moving the country forward."

"They don't expect everything to be solved overnight," Obama said. "They do expect that their president's going to be thinking about them every single day and going to be focused on how do we win the future."

"And if next November they feel like I've been on their side and I've been working as hard as I can and have been getting some things done to move us in the right direction, I'll win. If they don't, then I'll lose."

Are people really this stupid? Let me explain this for the everyone-gets-a-trophy generation. His policies didn't work. Unemployment (especially for people in that age range) is horrible. He's run-up a huge debt that your generation will have to pay. He's also rattled your would-be employers for 5, 10... maybe even 25 years.

So what's the game plan? He's going to relate to you by explaining how he's working as hard as he can and thinking about you every day. And that while your individual job/career prospects are dismal, things are going in the "right direction".

The sad thing is, I believe he'll be able to convince this crowd that trying hard and meaning well is all that counts. Now granted even the manager at your local hardee's has to answer for his results, what matters for Barry is that he means really, really, really well.

Good times!

People will vote for him for their own reasons.

My sense is that you'll think that they are stupid.

My sense is that they'll think that your view is stupid.

Nothing will be solved.

Good times!

no way in hell I'd vote for him, didnt then wont now.
I hope that things get better with who ever you / Plunkey / anyone votes for.

Sadly, I don't think that it will. I am beginning to believe that it's all a charade and that the course is "set" regardless of who is in power.

Sure, minor victories are won here or there, but the war is lost over all.

This has nothing to do with them being stupid or not.

He was using a very focused message directed at the 18-30 age group.

Your garden-variety 40 year old from any socioeconomic class will immediately recognize that results matter -- effort and good intentions do not.

One group that should be incensed at Barry are the 18-30 year olds, especially the 18-24 year olds. They've been hit disproportionately hard by the recession and beyond that, Barry has diminished their long term prospects as well (long after he's out of office). So his appeal to them is not on results, but rather on good intentions and effort. And since many of these people lived through outcomes-based education and soccer leagues where everyone gets a trophy, it will work on a surprisingly large number of them.

His strategy is shrewd, but it also underscores an underlying cynicism about how people think.

I share your view that the war is lost. Really the only two things that we can influence now is the timing and how hard we crash.

The only thing that could ever get us out of this mess is growth. We'd need explosive growth in not only services, but also in making things. Barry (and his predecessors, but especially Barry) are winning the war on US-based manufacturing.

Who is "we"

When the crash cums, I'll be palling around at Cutter's Switzerland.

just sayin'

And I'll be sifting through the local girls on the tropical island saying: "Bathe her and bring her to me!".

So I guess we'll both be getting what we really want.
