It was a sad day when he died. He was a good man that stood for many good things including family values...None of this bang the woman get her pregnant and take off bullshit. The block he lived on (85th street) was the safest street in the neighborhood because of him. Rest In Peace My Friend.

Gotti was near death. I don't think he would've broken his silence after this much time. May not like what those guys stood for, but they at least did it to each other.

John Gotti was a bum!!!
He thought that because he bought the kids in his neighborhood ice cream and had a fireworks show for these kids, that he could get away with murder, drug dealing, extortion, and other crimes.

There are alot of people that hate John Gotti and there are alot of people that love John Gotti, personally I like him I like the way he carried himself, he did nothing to the average Joe! Also he was loyal,He never said a word once he was in jail 3 times in his life and and he never turned anybody in once never said a word, On the other hand you have scum bags like Sammy the Bull, who kills 19 people, servers 5 years for 19 fucking murders! Gets out because he ratted everybody out! On the other hand Gotti got life for being loyal and never saying a word! Im not saying I agree what Gotti did in his life but I respect how he went out! I guarantee you that if you were looking at serving a long time in prison that 95% of people would take the easy way and tell all the info they could to make it easier on themselves even if that was selling your best friend down the river for an easier sentence! well thats my 2cents!

1) The people who ran the stores, shops, bars, and restuarants in the community and had to pay kickbacks and protection money to stay in business.
2) The people who felt they had no where else to turn when they needed money, so they borrowed it from their neighborhood loan shark.
3) All the people that became involved with drugs and all the families that suffered because of this.
That's not to mention the hijackings and the added cost to the consumers and businesses.
We like to glamorize the mafia and their way of life, when it is really a very ruthless and brutal life. There is nothing honorable about their lifestyle.

Paul Castellano was killed because he was the centre of the fault line within the Gambino family; you were either with him, or with Neil Dellacroce and Neil commanded more respect. In the beginning, Gotti was with Neil and Sammy was with Paul.
The mafia banned drug dealing, but Gotti turned a blind eye to it, this is probably part of his downfall and the links would finally lead to him.
Aside from this, killing the guy who ran over his son (what would you do if you had near unlimited power in this situation? - IF the driver WAS drunk as opposed to "I turned a corner and was blinded by the sun") and beating up a butcher because he walked up to Gotti and talked shit to him coz he was double parked, Gotti was a success and was motivated, he took himself from nothing to mafioso, and to do that deems respect.
You gotta admit it takes alot of balls to join the mafia and then work your way up the ranks and take over the way he did.
