Has anybody else had a numbness come over their arm(s) when they are benchpressing, either incline flat or decline? In my right arm numbness sets in when i'm doing about 65% of my max, up to max., for either press. It only occurs during these exercizes and doesn't completely numb my arm. The numbness doesn't stop me from working out but it's something that is tweaking my interest. I'm thinking something is getting pinched, poss?
any info helps thanks

It could possibly be a pinched nerve in the shoulder/neck region which is affecting your arm. Have someone (experienced) watch your form during your routine to notice if anything is out of alignment during the pressing movement.

Always have a spotter with you if you are going to continue lifting in your present condition.

If your condition persists then consult with a physician.

i use strict form, atleast i feel i do, but besides that i always have a spotter for all pressing exercises. let me also mention that i have weak shoulders, something that i'm working more on now in the gym than in the past. there have been instances where my arm would give out and the dumbell would just drop, bad form at sometimes imo but thats not for all cases. and this only happens with dumbells, prob cuz the bar helps stabilize the sides.

Then it is likely the result of a rotational movement within the shoulders, something which doesn't occur when using a straight bar, A sports physician would be able to put you throught a range of motions to determine if there was significant loss of strength or control as a result of something happening in your shoulders.

Something to consider.

how long has it happened for, how old are you, does it happen in any other situations, have noticed any other numbness or atrophy of muscle, where exactly on the arm are youn numb (shoulders, tri, bi etc), do you have any other conditions

Sounds like it could be something called TOS-Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, which is basically compression of the nerves or blood vessels when your arm is in a certain position. You can do an internet search and get some info on it, but of course the best thing to do is see a doc.

TOS is usually bilateral is it not?

I'm 22, 5'8, 195lb, and i think thats the only exercise that i know of that numbness occurs. Usualy it's a medial to superficial numbness in relation to the muscles. It starts on the dorsal part ot my deltoid and travels down through longhead and lateral heads of my tricep and dissipates once it reaches my antebrachii. As far as i know there aren't anyother condidtions that i can assimilate with the numbess. The only other exercise that causes a problem is when i'm doing dumbell flys, at certain times if the dumbell moves to far towards either my head or feet i lose control and drop the dumbell.

only way to find out if you have nerve damage is to get a catscan or MRI done. i would suggest this, as nerve damage can lead to problems down the road.
