You will be quite happy with the gains from 250 a week and it gives you a change to see if you are prone to any weird side effects.
I did a 250/8 week cycle and kept 8lbs 6 months later. The only problem with this is, some people don't respond at all to 250/week. I definitely have to go with the less is more on first cycles, for the reasons that you stated.
I'm on my second cycle at 437/week/8 weeks. I'm starting my 4th week and am up around 4lbs with no water, or around 7lbs including my water weight. I expect to retain around 15lbs post cycle.
