Not sure what to do...Training isn't fun anymore

I'm getting married soon, I am as big as I have ever been. Haven't played basketball in a good 6 years, and at 225lbs, all this muscle is seriously hindering me. I played the other day and felt like dying. Sure it looks good, and I get nothing but compliments. My joints are on fire, not sure If i'll they'll ever be the same. Just comming off an anavar cycle, and stopped using test a while back due to hairloss. Long story longer, I can't do the things I used to do. I try to grab a rebound playing basketball, and since I have no neck, I throw my fucking shoulder...(injury for a few days). I'm getting nasty forearm pains from lifting and pulling so much, Doctor says to stop lifting so heavy. I have a mentality when I go to the gym, to lift heavy, no pussy shit. I'm not going to go and lift high reps. I'm just not. Fear of muscle loss is terrible. So I am at a crossroad where I feel like maybe just quiting the gym, and do the things I used to do ( play baseball, basketball, swim...just for fun. ) Of course I don't want to loose 10 years woth of muscle, but at 27 years old, and don't plan to compete or live a bodybuilder's lifestyle anytime soon, I'm slowly reazling its either be good at one thing, or mediocore at everything.

I can't play sports like I used to, I am in constant pain from sore joints. If I stay at the gym, and keep getting bigger, in the future i'll probably just be in more pain. I don't know what to do :chomp:

Some of you bros have advised me to use deca for sore joints...not sure if its any option due to fear of hairloss and not being able to take test with it. Its like one solution causes another problem....

First of all, deca shouldnt be a prescription for sore joints. It's a steroid, not joint medicine. There's a variety of supps out there for joint health - Glusomine, MSM, SamE, etc. you can look into. Eat gelatin.

And what's wrong with not lifting crazy heavy? I don't know your full routine, so I'm not going to comment on that, but there's a lot of exercises some older guys won't do because they know it kills their joints, heavy squats among others...(I don't care if I get flamed for that). It's about taking care of your own body, fuck what other people think. I've talked to some big older guys who don't do full range of motion on some lifts, etc ect, they know their bodies and they know what fucks them up, so they adjust their workouts accordingly.

Me, I've taken long periods of time off from lifting, but I always come back to it. Nothing wrong with that either, if your body needs a break, give it one.

just my 2 cents.

Couldn't of said it better.

muscle memory

take a break dude. you aint gonna lose 10 years of hard work in a few months.....

I would not stop lifting, but if you don't feel good, tune it down a notch. youll maybe lose some muscle, but youll feel better. you realy can't have both.

AGILITY DRILLS JUMP ROPE CARDIO EVERYTHING should of been doing this from the start its what I do I can weigh anything and Iwill perform good with what I do do the same man work on agility take up boxing slow a bit down on the weights . Boxing will preserve muscle also man. Switch up you dont got to just lift u kno? Dont ever not exercise that makes men bad. Men should always do some sort of exercise always

Your right about lifting heavy, but I like to go to the gym to see results. If I'm not getting bigger, I'm getting leaner. I know that I've gotten bigger by lifting heavier, and the results show. I don't want to back track for a year with high reps, and loose the bulk. At the same time I agree to take some time off from heavy lifting, and look into supplements. Yes I know deca is a steroid. I meant from an anabolic steroid standpoint..

wow, couldn't have said it better myself.. say your bench drops from 400 to 200 in 6 months of not training (assuming the 400 is off-cycle).. i GUARENTEE you are back to 350 in a month or so.. you come back fast as hell. What you need is a break.

You'll miss it bro.. just take a break..

this is the reason i keep doing cardio no matter what. I dont like basketball but i can still play baseball and flag football. There has to be a balance if your not going to compete. being big is awesome as long as you can function like wipe your ass. I took a 3yr break to start my business then came back, in 3 mo i was back in shape. The test works great for athletes. Just take time off of lifting. You will miss it then come back.

I think muscle memory is a blessing. A little rest and you'll be itching for it soon. I know when I'm feeling the same way it's what I do. The rest causes me to be stronger and ready to get back at it.

Take a break,

Cardio and Yoga are things you should consider as a new way of life in the off season

then maybe once a year hit things up again

consider Deca even in mild doses if you cycle again

Cardio got me through so many injuries its not even funny

step back and take a break for a months,,,try another sport perhaps.

this puts me in mind of the Fight Club quote "the things you own...sometimes end up owning you"

its great being muscley and getting complements, but being muscley is just a means to an end - its to make you happier. a person doing something that makes them unhappy (going to the gym, being sore, being unable to play sport) in order to keep a bunch of muscle that is supposed to be making them happier simply because it took them a long time to build that muscle...is a fool

cheerios :)

I often struggle with your same delima. I have a personal training business (i train about 40hours a week) and compete in bbing as well. I'm 6'1 and about 200lbs on stage. I enjoy golf, tennis, soccer, riding my dirtbike and streetbike. BUT - it is hard to do all of the things I love to do when i'm training and hurting from the hard days at the gym. I fell off my dirtbike about 2 months ago and broke some ligaments in my wrist and tore something in my shoulder. Dr. said that with my frame (tiny joints) and muscle mass i could not take a big hit on my wrist or knees ect w/o being more prone to injury than your "average" guy. My golf swing goes to shit once I get over 195 or 200lbs, knees hurt when i play tennis over 200lbs - arrgh.

Never considered taking a long break from the gym b/c i am literally there all day durring the week and can not resist doing a few sets here and there even if I'm not feelin it. I have to go out of town to take a break. went to costa rica last year for 12 days and came back recharged and ready to lift - heavy!

anyway - just wanted you to know that many of us struggle to find a balance between our lifting/bbing and other recreational activities.

thanks for input guys. Its weird, the longest I have gone without training in the last 5 years has been 3 weeks. I stopped taking test like 3 years ago due to hairloss, and the only, and I mean only anoblic I have been using has been anavar, that with creatine and other supplements. This time I used 80mgs of anavar, and everyone that saw me blow up thought I was on test. I am currently 5'11, 225, I'd say 12-13% body fat. I get scared though because if I'm off anavar, or at least from heavy training, I start to see my arms shrink and I start to get anxiety. I have never been short and stalky so it took me a while to get my arms this size, which I still think are small, although people tell me they are big all the time (people that don't hit the weights of course). Anyways, I agree with all of you with the break, but I fear that if I take time off (like 2 months) it will really hinder if not kill all my gains. I am happy that all my gains have been from anavar and not a crazy anadrol cycle where I would crash bigtime, but still I know the crash is inevitable..

take a month off from the weights and improve your mile run, flexibility etc. then ease back into it all later on throw in some lighter weeks using 8-12 reps per set, belive me sets/reps of 4x12 of different bodyparts will ache just like 6-8 rep sets

You need to deload.

The body and CNS can only take so much hammering before it complains and you ignore the complaints at your own peril. I don't know whether you ever looked at WSB training but it involves hitting heavy, max weights twice per week. You protect yourself, though, by not spending more than two or three weeks on any given movement. The really advanced lifters switch exercises week to week.

You need to make changes to your workout routine to allow for recovery, both muscular and nervous. If you don't then eventually you'll talk yourself out of the gym or into a hospital bed. Taking a month off is one option but it might not be necessary and you will lose conditioning in the gap.

by the way Cubano

one of the best training cycles I had lifting in term of muscle gains was preceded by about 9 months of Cardio ONLY ( running outside to be precise)

in that period I ran EVERY DAY

Dude, you ran for 9 months and didn't lift during that time at all?..I wonder how my body would react to that..

When I feel like you do I take 1month off from the gym and do the things I want, eat what I want and just relax. Clear your head and think about what it is you truely want now and in the future.
