drinking large amounts of liquids during a meal is not recommended but a moderate one is OK

Yes I have heard of this, and it is because you have digestive enzymes in your mouth that you secreet (saliva). When you drink, before and/or during eating, it washes them away, hence the theory is it inhibits digestion.
