North korea is really getting desperate

It seems that they are so desperate for aid and so damn determined to remain a Nuclear power in the region that going to war is a considerable risk they are willing to take...What a bunch of fools...

Just to lay down some military facts

We(U.S. army) Keep 1 platoon ( i know small but check it out) Right at the main point where a NK invasion would come...From a Strategic (sp?) standpoint sounds like suicide but there are Land mines, and Claymore mines that would wipe out Thousands of the enemy...If they are able to get past it then they have an Obstacle of 50 Cal machine guns to get past...There are Engineer Trenches about 50-100meters between each other for the Platoon to Pull Back and reset up another Machine gun He position is also given Landmines and Claymores as well...

Also along each Spot are vehicles equiped with a Variety of Vehicle Equiped weapons such as the TOW which are there to fire and support....

The Contingency of this 1 platoon facing a worst case scenario should be equiped an All out Invasion for 18hrs before Reinforcements get there.

Those Reinforcements would consit of Troops from southern regions of Korea, which could get there if things go well in a matter of Minutes-hours within 18hrs you could expect the 25th Infantry Division from Hawaii to arrive, and depending on my Units alert Status expect the 501st Airborne battalion and 172nd Infantry Brigade from Alaska from 18hrs-52hrs

I'm still trying to do more Research about the units which make up the 2milion they keep along the DMZ and in surounding areas but so for no success

Another interesting note which some of you which might have served some time in Korea could know somethign about...The NK version of Ranger school has a Mission where students are required to Sneak across the DMZ into certain Graveyards and Sketch names off Headstones...You graduate if you make it back across uncaptured. This was relied by a friend/coworker who served in a LRRPS team there

I'm not even taking into account the Tanks, Aviation support from Bombers, fighter jets, hellicopters (attack and support), Artillery, Air Defense Artillery, and various other support jobs there

I can't even Answer what kind of Role other Branches would play there for I dont know what kind of bases and people they have in place

Being so crazy as you said, they would pobably use tactical nukes to open a corridor. I know it's insane, but damn, they were born fucked up so don't be surprised. NK would most likely rely on old tactics: man-to-man charges, static use of their tanks..... I didn't check their actual arsenal, but I'm pretty sure it didn't change a lot since the 80's, 90's so its mostly T-55 and T-64 tanks, old Mig-21 fighters equiped with 2nd generation air to air missiles.

As long as the chinese don't get involved it could be easier than Iraq....

100% correct as far as I know.

I always find it hilarious how the countries that stand no chance against us are always the ones who talk all the shit.

i dont think people should scratch names off of headstones.

Nukes or not, in over 50 years of having them we still have ground troops...No such thing as a Weapon that can gather Ground intel and use it to attack...When our weapons think for themselves then not only will ground troops not be needed but we'd be a fucked country

Why does the US need to maintain any military presence in Korea?

Is that so they can be first in to the throw up a McDonalds if the communist regime ever falls?

Fucking unecessary and antagonistic if you ask me.

Because it's a Stalemate not a Peace treaty that was signed to end the war as America new it...now 50years later it's about to start up again

That's a textbook army answer, but doesn't answer my question.

The US went to korea to halt the spread of communism. Why then are they still there?

for 50+ years the Commies to the North have threatned and at times made attempts to weaken and overthrow the Democracy which rules SK

They kidnap South Korean citizens have remained throughout this time remained a military Threat to those in the south and in Japan

Afghanistan was Successfull in fighting troops in different places at once...THe major difference between today and Vietnam was Using Special ops soilders who are highly trained to fight unconventionally Vs Regular soilders for the most part who were trained to fight conventionally in an Unconventional environment

My feeling exactly, desperate people do desperate things. Because of their severe food shortage conditions I'm sure they're looking at a war with a 'nothing to lose' mentality. I don't think they'll hesitate for a second before using nukes. For me it's not 'if' they're going to use 'em, but 'when.' IMO the DMZ will be desolate within 24 hours of that invasion.
