Normal Test Levels?

BigGuns29

New member
I had my testosterone levels checked along with 7 other blood tests by an endocrinologist this week and I would like to know what is the normal range of testosterone in a 29 yr. old male. Thanks

I guess it would depend on the test parameters of how they did your blood work. When mine were done the "normal" range was from 300 - 1200. My age didn't matter. I was at 124, which was significantly below normal. When you get your bloodwork done, there will be a referrence range as part of the analysis.

It varies from person to person. But the general consensus is from the low 200s to more than 1200 ng./dl. Some men feel perfectly fine at the low end, and others feel like crap. With my HRT I try to keep mine in the upper ranges and I feel great.

Sorry strongsmart, I posted before looking if anyone had responded. You got it.

By upper range, do you mean 250mg/E5D? ;)

Well, if you can fucking believe this shit, when they did my test, (initially seen dr. about adolescence gyno, told him it hurt like hell so he did blood tests) they put the womens reference chart next to the results sheet they gave me. WTF?

when I got my results the told me that the normal range was bet 200-800 and I was at 263, I'm 26 but I've heard in other boards that the normal is bet 400-1200 I don't understand. so all depends on their range then?

It depends on their mechanism. That is why you're given reference ranges as part of the analysis.

Four years ago I had blood work done and my total test was a meager 300. Granted it wasn’t as low as some, but my family doctor didn’t even want to discuss HRT with me. You’re “within the normal range”, he said. I was 39 at the time. So I took matters into my own hands and I feel a lot better because of it.

mine is at 203 ng/dl whatever that means. Does this suck? If so, I could be a lot bigger (if they were higher) than I already am naturally then right? Damn I guess I am going to have to supplement with Jelfa products LOL

Well, guess what? You’re in the normal range. (the low 200s to more than 1200 ng./dl.) Granted, you’re on the low end, but ultimately, you need to be the judge on how you feel. If your libido is lower than you feel it should be, or you are constantly low in energy then your testosterone may not be normal. Personally, with my musculature and advanced age (43), I feel good when I’m in the upper ranges, but you may feel differently.

When you are in the normal range, as I was and you are, you’ll be hard pressed to find a sympathetic doctor, which is why you either have to find a doctor that specializes in HRT or take matters into your own hands.

Also; what time of the day did you have your blood drawn? The best time to do so is the morning when your testosterone levels are at their peak. You might want to have it checked again first thing in the morning.

BTW. That’s a nice chart. That just goes to show you how many differing opinions there are on what is normal.

You are absolutely correct on your post. Different labs have somewhat slightly different reference ranges but ultimately, as you said in your post, It depends on how you feel at that low end of the scale.

I'm 38 and don't feel good unless I'm pushing 1000 ng/dl. or upwards from there. I must have got lucky with my Doc cause he put me on HRT 2 years ago when my results were 300 ng/dl.

I am 44 and my T levels recently came back in the 500's. you need to also look at free T and estrogen levels cause it is the free T that matters. mine was around 10-11 but I think ideally it should be pushing 20 or so. my sex drive sux right now I can tell you that

Ok, you guys on HRT...I always seem to be missing this part of the conversation...

Don't your boys shrivel up from the exogenous testosterone? Or are the doses not high enough or not often enough to cause major problems? What is a typical HRT injection schedule?

You'll find dosing from a doctor to be around 100mg/wk of test cyp normally. You'll find a significant number for guys who'll do 200 - 300mg/E5D for months on end. If testicular atrophy begins to be a problem, just use HCG at 500iu - 1000iu for a week straight and that seems to fix that situation. It's not like you can recover from a cycle like those who are not hypoganadic. My test levels will likely never get above 200 without HRT of some sort. I first tested at 124.

Bonk- i know my doc starts at 100mg test cyp once a week and checks blood levels after a month. If they are still low OR subjectively i dont feel good, he will raise it.
As far a hcg goes, he does around 300iu the 2 days prior to injection as this is when test during the week is lowest and you get the burned out feeling.

If I recall correctly, someone said that one of the protcols is for 250iu/day for each of the two preceding days before the inject. It seems to me that HRT would be more effective at 50mg/E4D instead of 100mg/wk. Not as much rollercoastering.

yeah, i agree but the doctors might want to keep injection frequency at a more reasonable level(as this seems to be what other doctors are doing=no malpractice) because of the risk of infection that comes with any injection ect ect.
