No Carbs = No Seratonin Release

5-HTP-insulin-serotonin feedback chain has long been known - clearance of competing aminoacids in favor of 5-ht to be converted to serotonin (by the way only if conversion occurs in the brain it is relevant, if it occurs in the gut nothing much will happen except you're increasing a risk of arterial collapse). And trust me CHO are NOT antidepressants. And CHO are also by far NOT the only way to ramp up serotonin production - serotonin acts in congruence with other neurotransmitters and precursors other than 5-ht - manipulating them would be quite as effective, if not more effective.
OT: BTW, avoid B6 when using 5-HTP - it inhibits conversion in the brain.

What are the best ways (food related) to produce serotonin ?

I've gone very low carb and I do not have any of the mood swings that the article speaks of. Sure I may be a bit hungry, but nothing extraodinar.

Contorary to what the article says, I believe its mind over matter.

That explains why I hate the world when I wake up every god damn day...
my mood swings were only during the first 3 days of ketosis
after that it was well balanced esp if i ate 4-6 times a day instead of my twice daily feedings

I have my good days and bad...

Recently, I've added 1/2 cup of oats eod for meal 1 which seems to make me more joyous for a short period of time.

How many carbs does everyone consider a low carb diet. This is my first time ever cuttin since I just finished bulking up(185 now) and would like to lose some of the flab I gained around my waist. I currently take in about 185grams of protein, 180-200 grams of carbs and around 2000-2300 cals a day?

There are different variations of low carb diets. Some people consider under 100 low. I am on a low carb type diet and I take in various amounts of carbs a day depending on whether its a workout day or an off day. Atkins and CKD diets recommend 20 carbs a day. Bam

Well, even Atkins only says 20 a day for the first 2 weeks. 20 grams or less a day is NOT the Atkins diet and at least a CKD has a controlled refeed (it isn't suppose to be a cheat day). 20 a day is LOW, believe me I know. I did it for a year and it wasn't always easy to pull off.

20 carbs a day is really low. I will gradually decrease my carb intake but wont I lose alot of muscle by not having all those carbs anymore? Dont your workouts because really fatigued and weak? Where do you get the energy from if you have no carbs in your system?
