Nizoral Shampoo

I'm using Nizoral shampoo every 2 days and apply minoxidil 2% and continue doing that. Another friend of mine whose got really thin hair is planning to shave his head off and start applying minoxidil daily. Do you guys think that applying minoxidil on a bald head is worth it since there is no hair. Need feedback guys.

I used to use nizoral shampoo for years growin up because i had a scalp condition. On the RX label it says may cause hair loss. So its very strange to me to see people using it to stop hairloss. Maybe what they wrote on the RX label years ago was only a myth or they were uncertain but, it did say it might cause hairloss.

But like sremack said, it stops inflamation of the scalp which can cause hair loss it totally true but not DHT cuased hair loss. When my scalp used to flair up and i would scratch the hell out of it, tons of hair would fall out. i mean alot. i used to have about 50+ strans on a peice of paper. thats how i used to measure. but they all grew back. it was the inflamation that forced them to temporarily fall out. Nizoral just stops the inflamation and flaking of the skin.

I found better stuff for my scalp. Head and Shoulders shampoo and conditioner. My scalp has never felt so friggin normal since. Nizoral was the next best thing though.

don't really have anything to contribute to the topic i just thought i would add.....damn that's gonna be one hurt boy when he shaves off his head. ;)

Here is a tip a hair specialist told me: use a confortable soft bristle brush and lightly apply 100 strokes of the brush to your hair and scalp each day. Every swipe of the brush = 1 stroke. It only takes a couple of minutes. I noticed within a few days I had no more hair falling out in the shower. It does not pull the hair out any worse, it increases circulation to the scalp, which is what nioxin is supposed to do. This way is cheaper than nioxin.

I tried the 100 strands last night....damn the amount of hair that fell was not a joke. does this take a while for the hair to start falling off?

Good luck.

Now, I repeatedly hear that the circulation thing is a myth. It was an antiquated idea from the beginning of the 20th century. One of the main causes of balding (and what makes Nizoral good) is inflamation. It isn't solely a problem with DHT clogging the folicle, which is a way simplified explanation -- no one knows exactly what it does. "Stimulating the scalp" seems like it might exacerbate the problem, if nothing else.

It took a few days for me to see a difference as well. It is scary at first because you think you're losing more. While most of mine did not come out on the brush, I could count upwards of almost a hundred hairs every morning shower. As to theories of scalp stimulation, I really can't say if it has truly been dispelled or not since at least from an anecdote standpoint it worked for me and the Nizoral seems to support whatever I'm doing. One of the Nioxin products is supposed to increase blood flow the head as well, although that did not work for me. Who knows, it may depend on what type of hair loss you have. I have vortex, but not MPB, so that may make a difference. I will run it by the hair specialist next time I see her since she is the one with the degrees in this field. It could have been something specific to me, but that seems unlikely.
