I worked nights for almost 4 years. At first I could sleep during the day, but after 6 months or so, I started being unable to sleep for extended periods of time. I would be dead tired, but because our circadian rhythm raises our metabolism during the day I would have an incredibly hard time sleeping. The noise and the heat during the day didn't help. I would literally go 2-3 days with only a couple of hours sleep. I was a fucking zombie. Some people can sleep days and some people can't; I'm one of the people who can't.
The only way I got off nightshift was by threatening to quit my job (they like bb'ers cuz we do more work, hehe).
It's been about a year since I got off nights and I still cannot sleep the way I used to before nights. Nightshift fucked up my sleep patterns, maybe permanently.
Nightshift if VERY unhealthy for people. It has been shown to shorten human lifespan, raise blood pressure, weaken immune systems, and cause various other health problems.
If you have any say in the matter, I would opt not to take a nighttime job.
