Night Sweats

anthrax

From time to time I wake up in the middle of the night with night clothes and bedding soaked with perspiration.

It's not related to the temperature of my bedroom

Any idea what can cause that ?

[I don't workout after 8pm]

I can't see the underlying explanation not being that of the temparature of your room or perhaps the thickness / type of materials you blankets and sheets are.

I don't see why you body would perspire more during your sleep especially when your heartrate would have been constant by then..

Ya sure it's not nightmares?

Naahh...try wearing a soft thin cotton shirt and a light weight cotton boxer shorts to bed.
Substitute any wool, polyester bedding materials to 100% fine cotton to allow air to go in and out. Keep you room alittle cooler too.

Sorry to disagree with you Growth&Courage but I also get this occassionally - maybe once a year. In my case it usually lasts about a week and then disappears as mysteriously as it appeared.
There are various diseases and conditions which can cause night sweats. There is the usual worrying list at www.aafp.org/afp/20030301/1019.html.

Thanks for the link

It's not "menopause" ;) for sure

Maybe "over-activity" combined with a big before-bed meal

Do you also workout just a few hours before hitting bed ?

No other sympton and I've not been sick (not even a common cold) in the past 16 months.

I've just had a couple weeks of extreme tiredness (almost falling asleep at work) which seemed to be due to boredness (it almost disappeared the day I started a more interesting and stressful job)

When does it happen ?

It can be just a night every few weeks or a much more often (like a few nights a week for a couple of weeks)

I don't remember when it first started but it's a few years ago and last time a few nights ago

PS : nice avatar
Someone you know ? I knew a girl who looks like that and she came from the Middle East

Nope, I'm more of a 'morning' person. My night sweats are so infrequent that I'm sure they're down to something external - anxiety/ stress maybe or a low-grade infection.

hmm

doesnt realy sound too infective or anything....I'd still see a doc as its unusua regardess to soak up the sheets but might just be due to something innocuous, the fact you seem otherwise well is only god, and i think a smple cheap ass blood test should exclude any bugs....it soiunds like you do have 'proper' night sweats though (when you wake up drenched) as opposed to just a little sweating...which means i do think you shuold see a doc anyway just for peace of mind

it is free to get a consult in america right?

(p.s. she is a amateur net pornstar, name is raven riley... very hawt :D )

:rainbow: Just another thought...Night Sweats can be a symptom of HIV. Have you had an AIDS test?

i really dont know if you are serious with this or not, but that is a pretty extreme remark to make, considering that feeling tired or having a cough can be a sign of PCP which is an aids defining illness but not every flu patients gets tested and therefore neither is 'sweating' to be automatically associated with 'AIDS'...all he needs to do is find out why he is sweating.

seriously this forum aint for joking so watch what you post if it was (given the smiley you chose....the majority of aids transmission is now heterosexual)

:rainbow: Danielson....Appearently you have not been in the HIV section on the forum. I have been living with AIDS for over 13 years. IF someone would joke about such a thing ...then they need serious help..mentally. As for the The way I learned I was postive, flu like symptoms. Originaly I was treated for bronchitus. Had an AIDs test while I was at the Dr's Office. Just to check, since I had never had one. Well it came back positve. Had an x-ray taken that day. Guess what it was ...PCP. It was a very short time after that discovery, that I spent the next 6 weeks in the hospital fighting the PCP. Nearly died, but I'm all better now. I am not one of those people who go around joking about serious illeness. I try help people who may not be that aware of the all the things associated with HIV/AIDS.
Thats why I suggested the test ..... ;)

Oh...by the way...I'm glad that you also know the largest growing of infected cases are now hetrosexual, Hightest number is Black females.

Yes I've been tested
and I'm fine

night sweats can be as simple as your bed covering is too heavy. don't get all nervous. i had pretty bad night sweats when using parabolan. so bad i had to wash all my bedding, including pillows, several times. they stopped when my cycle was thru thankfully.

Sometimes I'll get them right before the onset of a cold, and I've noticed that they lesson the severity of the cold.

It's a sign that your immune system is fighting something off.
