Nigerians affecting oil prices

Should've bailed out that exiled President when you got that email!

LAGOS, Nigeria (CNN) -- Violence in oil-rich southern Nigeria is having a ripple effect thousands of miles away -- at gas stations in the United States.

One reason for record high gas prices, analysts say, is a spate of attacks on oil pipelines in Nigeria, the fourth largest supplier of oil to the United States.

The attacks are relatively small, but the fallout is substantial.

Well kids. Looks like our boys will be going there soon to "fight al qaeda, bring freedumbs to Nigerians everywhere and find evil WMD's". :)

Too bad the Dems stopped drilling in Alaska and do not want to drill off of the coasts of the US.

Chinese and Russian firms are drilling like crazy in the Gulf of Mexico. Hopefully the Dems will punish US oil companies by taking their profits and then we will have all-foreign companies getting our oil for us.

Just so I'm clear, are you saying that we should not care about the environment in the same fashion as our neighbors overseas?

the amount of oil available from our environmentally sensitive areas comprise such a small percentage of our annual oil demand, why fucking bother ruining everything

I am saying we should care about the environment but if we do not drill off-shore, others will. The US has some very easy solutions to the current oil problem but refuses to take the appropriate action. This past week oil executives are being blamed for high prices and Obama and the rest of the Dems want to punish them. It makes absolutely no sense.

Chinese oil consumption has gone up 1000% over the past 10 years. In another decade they will have more autos on the road than the US. Nothing is stopping them from finding new oil. Even if every SUV's was pulled off of the road in the US and Americans were forced to use mules and horses for their transportation global oil consumption will still increase, India and China (and every other nation that doesn't give a shit) will continue to use more oil.

I am not saying we should not take care of the environment. We need to develop and exploit new technologies like electric cars. What I am saying is that not drilling in Alaska or off-shore is not a good policy because if we do not do it others will and in the end the only people harmed are US citizens.

I'm saying that Russia and China do not give a fuck about the environment. If they don't, does that mean that we should use the same tactics and have the same 'care' of the environment (although I'm also not saying drilling in Alaska is bad for the environment).

If people made the decision to not drill in Alaska, why not just respect it and move on (ie put all your energy into developing the new cars and stuff). Why re-hash an old decision? Doesn't that cause for a spin?

That's what we are doing. But suburban douchebags wanna bitch about oil prices. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Either drill in your backyard or someone elses. And right now, the "someone elses" are too busy selling it to others. So might as well bend over and take it like real men.
