nicotine and dieting

Before I used last month's Musclemag to wipe my ass I noticed a mention
of many bodybuilders chewing nicotine gum or smoking during the last
weeks of a diet, the theory being that it kills your appetite and
is a mild stimulant through different avenues than clen, eph and caff. , etc.
I'm dieting right now without drugs except for ephedrine and caffeine (too
broke, moving) and I started using Skoal Bandits and it has kept my appetite
down. I can start and stop on this pretty easy. Does anybody else do this?
Use some sort of nicotine I mean.

The ephedrine should be enough to suppress your appetite.

I take 4 tablets of Xenadrine every day and the ephedrine in that stops me getting very hungry.

I would put nicotine in the same category as Nubain. It's a DRUG! no matter the exuse for it's use, it's still a drug. I am not saying it's right or wrong, but to me bodybuilding is building a healthy body. I've had too many friends die from recreational drugs, and bodybuilding mix. That I really don't reccomend it.

Yes, it will kill cravings. But, you can get hooked.

Remember: To each his own.

I agree - if you HAVE to use nicotine, use the gum.

Although, personally I wouldn't bother with a substance that is as addictive as nicotine.

Just my 2 cents. :)

It seems kind of funny when we're worried about using Skoal Bandits
for a few weeks when the pro bodybuilders are using meth, ecstacy, nubain,
DNP, cocaine, pot, diuretics, etc. in addition to anabolics.

I have to agree that our worries are futile compared the the pro-bodybuilders use. But, those guys are just "enjoying" their life....whatever makes you happy..

Very true, but personally speaking the only supplements that I am using a whey protein, flax oil and Xenadrine. I have no intention of using some of the more hard-core stuff, and plan to stop using the Xenadrine once I get to my target weight - and then just stick to cardio/weights and a healthy diet.

I have no problem with others using all the hard-core stuff - to each his/her own, but I personally think that Skoal Bandits are a cause of mouth cancer (I remember reading quite a lot about them many years ago).

I wouldn't use Bandits or add something else to my routine which could become addictive - i.e. nicotine), but then that's me. :)

Live and let live - that's my motto.

Nicotine will suppress blood flow to your extremities. It's a vasoconstrictor and will not aid workouts in any way.

Anderson, K., Arner, P. "Systemic nicotine stimulates human adipose tissue lipolysis through local cholinergic and catecholeaminergic receptors." International Journal of Obesity . Aug. 2001, vol. 25 no. 8. pp. 1225-1232.

[ABSTRACT]

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether the lipolytic effects of systemic nicotine are not only attributed to indirect adrenergic mechanisms, but also to a direct action of nicotine on fat cells.

DESIGN: The effect of a systemic nicotine infusion (0.5 ug/kg/min for 30 minutes) on lipolysis in subcutaneous adipose tissue was investigated in situ in 11 non-obese, non-smoking, healthy male subjects under placebo-controlled conditions.

MEASUREMENTS: By using microdialysis probes the glycerol levels (lipolysis index) and blood flow were monitored locally in subcutaneous adipose tissue.

RESULTS: Plasma nicotine levels peaked (7.2 ng/ml) at the end of the infusion. Nicotine induced a mean (+/-s.e.) percentage peak increase in adrenaline and noradrenaline plasma levels of 213+/-30% (P<0.01) and 118+/-5% (P<0.05), respectively. increased venous plasma glycerol levels by 144+/-9% (P<0.001), arterialized plasma glycerol levels by 148+/-12% (P<0.001) and adipose glycerol levels by 148+/-16% (P<0.001), BUT DID NOT ALTER BLOOD FLOW. By inducing a local cholinoceptor blockade with mecamylamine (10 to the -5 power M) via the microdialysis system, the increase in adipose glycerol levels was inhibited by ~45% (P=0.02). A corresponding local beta-adrenoceptor blockade with propanolol (10 to the -4 power M), inhibited the increase in adipose glycerol levels by ~60% (P=0.02). Infusion of saline (ie placebo) had no effect on the parameters mentioned above.

CONCLUSION: Systemically administered nicotine induces lipolysis, in part by activating the classical adrenergic mechanism (mediated by a nicotine-induced release of catecholamines stimulating beta-adrenoceptors), and in part by directly activating a nicotinic cholinergic lipolytic receptor located in adipose tissue.

What is the proper dosage for nicotine? I want to use it for its cognitive enchancing effects(but I don't mind the fat-burning effects).

I'm planning on purchasing the patches. Last time I was at the store, I couldn't decide which one to buy because there were several different doses.
