New, wimpy and need advice!!!

If there is anyone here that would like to give me some advice/help I would appreciate it!! I’m 33 years old, 6’ tall and weigh a very wimpy 150 pounds.. The only good news is that I only have about 3 percent body fat. The short story: In 1993 I was hit in the face and upper body by several small pieces of metal that were moving very fast, basically I got busted up pretty bad!! Two vertebras in my upper back were crushed (C3 and C5 I think?), my left collarbone was fractured and most of my fingers were broken. One of the larger pieces of metal entered my face just under my jawbone, severed a nerve and knocked out a few teeth. Fortunately I was in good physical condition at the time of my little “misadventure” (190 pounds and almost no body fat) so after the Dr’s put me back together I healed relatively quickly. The only problem was that I was in constant pain! My back and neck hurt like hell and I couldn’t sleep (probably the nerve damage, who cares I just hurt!). So I did what the Dr’s told me to do and took my pain pills every day as prescribed.
Fast Forward: About two months ago I decided that I didn’t want to live in a narcotic haze any more! So I slowly started lowering my dose and have now been off my Methadone/Oxyconton combo for over three weeks.. I’m not going back!! I can’t, I have a wife and two kids.
I now have a good physical trainer and am trying to rebuild my body. But most of my muscles have atrophied and I am also in lots of pain again! I have read and been told that anaboilcs can help with the pain (you feel it less?).. I am also hoping that they could help speed up my recovery (weight and muscle gain ???). I don’t need to be Arnold, I just want to get back some of what I had! ANY IDEAS??? Note that this is my first post so if I have made an ass of myself please feel free to flame it till it’s golden brown and crispy!!! Thanks…

I would first visit a urologist or endocrinologist and tell them that you are lethargic, low sex drive and somewhat depressed most of the time. They will test you to see what your test levels are at. If they are low you can get HRT (hormone replacement therapy) . Insurance will pay for it and you will get medical attention the whole time, plus it is legal! If your levels are ok then at least you have your base levels so if/when you cycle and PCT you know when you have recovered. You need to spend a lot of time reading. I have been since last month when I decide to look on the internet for info. I used to do AAS pretty heavily in the 90s and knew nothing about them other than what guys in the gym told me and what I read in the Steroid Bible by Bill Phillips. I never PCTed back then and coming off sucked! I am getting ready to PCT next week for the first time.

I do not know anything about ASS and pain relief. I have heard that Deca and NPP help with joint pain but they also shut down hard. From what I understand being shut down means that your natural test production stops. Running deca alone without test will make your sex drive a memory and give you problems in the bedroom. There are some real knowledgeable guys on this board so hopefully they will reply. Jenetic and drjmw are very informative in AAS and there effects.

Have you tried a chiropractor for the pain? I recommend getting consultations from at least five of them and see what they have to offer. They have ways to get the vertebraes to realign and not pinch the nerves. It does take time and many visits but I truly believe in it. You need to find the right Dr.

I would try this and training prior to AAS. If you still decide on the AAS I would get all the info you can prior to doing them. Also keep your doses low, just enough to get the benefits that you're looking for. Also make sure you get your test levels first.

There are a lot of conflicting opinions on doses, cycle lengths, and what to stack on the board and can get confusing at times. I know I am after reading some threads.

hiya. pharmacist

first and foremost i want to make sure you arent feeling pain needlessly. i can understand your desire to get off the more mind altering drugs, but if your pain is affecting your life in a bad way, it is probably a good idea to try using some of the milder analgesics again. of course it is best to talk to your doctor, since they will know what you have tried and will know the state of various things like your liver and kidney health, as well as any stomach issues that will come to the fore.

the first drug to start with is paracetamol (you guys call it aminocetophen), but since youre going to get it from your pharmacy, have a chat to the pharmacist there.

now, in regards to the anabolics relieving pain, they generally will relieve some sorts of joint pain, and can be useful in recovery, since healing will take away the root cause of some sorts of pain; unfortunately for you, the sort of pain youre feeling is unlikely to be relieved by anabolics, which are generally illegal and problematic anyway. nerve pain and pain from old injuries is generally more difficult to treat than other sorts of pain, where you can at least target something, like inflammation, for example

truthfully, you should get in touch with a physical rehab clinic of some sort. these places do a lot of this sort of thing, and deal with many, many people doing reconstructions/replacements/accident recovery, and balancing quality of life against drugs- right up your alley

im personally really hesitant to give you much advice because the nature of your pain, as well as the rest of your case, needs to be looked at quite closely, to find out what sort of therapy is right for you...because really, the only way youre going to have a sure fire, pain free experience when getting back into working out is to go back on the heavier painkillers...since theyre pretty much no brainers- swallow them, and pretty much all hte pain goes away, then you can do what you like...but clearly, in your case, its affecting you badly in other ways, so some compromises need to be made

all the best :)

Quigley, Thanks for the reply!
I had anticipated that depression would be a problem, from what I have read narcotics withdrawals usually causes it one way or another. But I have not had any problems at all!! I know that my hormone levels are good and my testosterone level might even be a bit on the high side of normal, I have that “male pattern baldness” thing. My sex drive has never been a problem (not even when I was at the height of my Methadone usage!). I’m not trying to brag, it’s just the way it is. But, I understand what you are saying.. I have a very good Dr. and I think that I can probably get any kind of anabolic treatment that I ask for.. I just don’t know what to ask for. Also, my Dr. has never treated anyone with steroids in this way so that might be a problem.
I am doing as much reading as I can but there is a lot of BS out there and I am having a hard time sorting it out!! I have found that other people’s experiences are often just as helpful as medical journals.
As far as chiropractors go I have been to several over the last few years.. Unfortunately they didn’t help much, most recommended surgery. But surgery might leave me in worse shape than I am in already (possibly even in a wheel chair!) Not an option!! I am still looking for the right one I guess…
