First of all, let me say hello everyone!

I have decided to start weight lifting, but i have a lot of questions.

I am 25 years of age and i am 5ft 6in tall and i weigh about 210lbs (very chunky)
I would like to gain muscle aswell as burn fat or burn fat without burning muscle.

I have a bench and an ab roller at my disposal.

How should i begin my workout?
I really like to lift weights, but if its pointless to start benching due to my body fat i would just like to lose the weight, but if possible to gain muscle and lose weight, that would be nice also.

Some education and direction would be appreciated!

Welcome to EF bro, its a great website full of bros that have a lot of insight on leading a healthy lifestyle and being physically fit.

It sounds like you dont have a lot of equipment but thats ok...first you should fix your diet. Basically eat less calories than you burn on a daily basis. Eat lean meats such as chicken or turkey breast, salmon, cod, tuna, sea bass etc...lean red meat is good as well. Eat good veggies and complex carbs such as whole wheat pasta, yams, etc...if you dont already its important to eat about 5 to 6 times a day, this keeps your metabolism working to burn calories.

If you dont have access to a gym but you have a bicycle, get on it and take a ride, or you can take a walk at a brisk pace. Do the exercises that you used to do in gym class in school.

Its not easy and it takes time and it is very frustrating at times but if you have it in your mind that you are gonna do it and you stick to it you will achieve the goals you want.

Good Luck!!

so you have a barbell with some weights for your bench right? how much do the weights total up to? you should start lifting regardless of bodyfat, its a great way to burn calories. if you have a barbell and weights you could most likely start the 3x5 program. which is in a sticky call the training vault.

The total weight of my weights is 130 lbs
Can you direct to the link of the 3x5 routine? searched for it, but couldn't find it.

while 130lbs isnt alot in lifting standards i think its enough for you to get by with for a few months if your JUST learning and have never lifted before.. i doubt it but is ur barbell a 45lb olympic barbell or just some thinner one that came with the bench? anyway even if you end up maxing out on all the weight you own doing somthing is better then nothing. and then you can decide if you want to buy more equipment or get a gym membership or somthing

Just a cheap weider bench with cheap bar.

if your not maxed out doing the 3x5 lifts already with the weights you have i would advise starting there. get a book little notebook, write down the lifts for the day and the weights you did/attempt and keep a log. you can ever start a online log if you wanted. this little book is great, i started it when i joined EF last feb and still have it and love to be able to flip back to a certain month/day and see where i was and smile at where i am. it will also help keep you going if its structured. good luck and keep us updated

Heck, I don't even use close to 130lbs when I bench! lol
Just do slow reps and concentrate on using the muscle. Do more reps 12-15.
Can you get to a gym? You can also do rows with the barbell and squats.
Take a look at the diet section and get a solid diet set up. It is possible tp loose fat and gain some lean muscle without using AS.
Good to hear you will be getting into lifting! It's a great time!! :)
