New to the arts...

Good day to you all,

Ive been reading this forum for a while now, and there are quite a few of you who are well experienced in various martial arts.

In the coming months Ill have my summer break (im from the land down under) and I plan on picking up a martial art, be it boxing, kickboxing, BJJ, Judo or etc. But I would like to go there with some applicable strength and speed rather than walk in a piss weak newbie

Would anyone be able to point out to me some links about training routines/exercises that would benefit me? In your experiences has body building type training improved or decreased your punching/grappling strength?

Any links or advice or ideas for training equipment would be a great help guys!!

Im from Melbourne Australia, and if anyone knows of any great dojos to check out give me a shout!

Thanks for the links guys.

Kane fan- I plan on lifting or training for about 2 months before i join an art. Is this sufficient to get a good baseline of fitness?

Can I make a suggestion? Why wait two months; why not just join now? Who cares if you think you aren't strong enough or have enough endurance. You're still going to be a beginner, going to feel awkward, and you're going to get your but kicked every training session regardless.

Start now, let your body become conditioned to the movements of whatever you decide to take, then look into conditioning above and beyond what your martial art will offer.

I would love to join now but at the moment im still studying and waiting till the holidays. Dont want to make a commitment i cant keep strongly. So thought id ask questions before hand.

I dunno what all benifit you'll get from 2 months wait training compared to none but it should be some
just dunno if it'll be a lot
