New shoes, how long until they are comfortable

It seems like I have to wear new shoes for at least a week before they feel comfortable. Is this normal?

BTW... It's Saturday and I'm really bored. I'd rather be working overtime.

Depends on how often they're worn and the type of shoe.

Steel toe work boots usually take longer than say sneakers.

Break-in time for sneakers for me is about 5 days @8 hours a day.

I'm still trying to break in a pair of Cat steel toe boots, and I bought them at Christmas.

Depends on what kind of shoes they are, steel toed, thickness of the leather, etc. Doc Martens take a LONG time to break in, I used to have a pair of 8 eye Doc Boots that took months to break in. My first pair of Docs I bought years ago, steel toed black leather wingtips for the first 2-3 weeks they were torturous.

Depends on the person I think. I bought a new pair of runners at the shoe fair as I registered for last Spring's Austin Capital 10K, and wore them in the race the next day with no problems at all.
