New in town!

Hello, I'm new around these parts but I've been following some postings for awhile. I have a question for all the women with "Pro Bodybuilder" status. What year did you last compete in?

hee hee im an "olympian" - never competed, sorry
the status under the user name goes by # of posts...

anyhoo welcome!

there are some girls on here that compete... but as TV said, the titles "pro, elite, olympian, mutant" etc that are under our handles are ones that are given based on how often you post... not on your status in the bb world... (most of the people who compete don't have enough time to rack up mass amounts of posts :) )

welcome to the boards...

Wow, shows how much I know about this stuff. Sorry about that. Well, with that in mind what are your feelings on the new judging criteria for women bodybuilders?

Welcome Rayzzr.....tell us about yourself. Do you compete?? What are your goals???

I kind of like the figure category ; but have been hearing so many people say that the ladies entering these categories have no muscle but big boobs

I myself no nothing on the judging or what they are looking for ; seems to change quite a bit. Maybe someone else can chime in on this one................. :)

What specifically are the "new judging rules" that you are referring to? I have seen the move away from the big, hard look, however I have yet to see judges judge consistently with what they claim to be looking for. This would apply to women's bb, figure and fitness. I would also bring up the politics that those of you who have never been involved in a competition may not be aware of. For ex, at a large competition I went to this summer, there was a rather blatant favoritism for a particular Hispanic competitor despite obviously better qualifications from another competitor. However the promoter for the competition has some strong ties to the Hispanic bb community. Uh......

Anyway, that is the rather depressing reality of competition....

Any other comments from any one?

I agree Sass (If I my call you that), there are large political factors in every bodybuilding organization. My first National level show there were over 200 Hells Angels in the audience, 1 on stats, 1 judge and some competitors. But it was a fair show! I have been competing for 5 years, I judge bodybuilding and fitness shows, and train competitors in different associations. I love judging as I can see new and up coming talent. I would love to talk to anyone who competes, pro level or not, or who is interested in competing.

Rayzz, may I call you that? LOL! Very cool! I think there are lots of good judges who will give fair scores and provide constructive criticism, but there are also ones who are a joke to the world of body building. I resent people like that being in a position to comment on my ass-kicking work. But I guess that's just part of it -- the sport is not regulated well and there are so many different organizations with different rules and I'm sure fighting for "higher" standing w/ the most marketable competitors, etc. But it still sucks. Most people get into bb as part of a personal goal or achievement and then they get treated like that. But I guess you take it for what its worth.

I have definitely found some of the most inspiring stories among bodybuilders tho -- there was one woman in her late 40's recovering from cancer and chemo in one of my shows. There was also another woman who was 72 who got up on stage in a posing suit - not exactly Valentina, but she got into after dealing with osteoporosis.

This brings me to another question -- what is your opinion of the REALLY older categories like over 70? I've seen up to 6 guys in these categories - they aren't the sexiest things on the stage, but they are so cute. None of them could hear the pose calls so they were all guessing at what they were calling for. It was cute, and you give these guys credit, but it also makes show REALLY long. But then the addition of these figure competitions does also.

What is your opinion of the figure category now? What do you think will be the impact on fitness & womens bb?

Love them 70's and up out there competing. You are never too old......its too cool. Just to have the discipline and energy to keep it up, amazes me.

Do they have shows for just the older ones?? Might be more fair, all considered.
