I have done several high protein diets in the past to lose bodyfat with no problems. Usually I go into ketosis state somewhere between 3 and 4 days. This time i had the flue but was still going to the gym, never been much for staying home in bed while sick. Did a lot of vomiting while i was sick and it seemed as if the flue was nearly gone. Started a high protein diet and went into ketosis state after 1.5 days. My ketosticks were indicating a dark purple at extreme end of the spectrum. Anyhow the flue dehydrated my body and the high protein made it worse, and not to mention being in ketosis state totally wacked out by body. Went to the doctor after being sick for 7 days straight. Was not able to keep any food down and was very weak. The doctor was calling me stupid for going on the high protein diet and my bodyweight had dropped from 210 lbs down to 180 lbs. I think she's right, I loss a lot of muscle, back up to 190 now, but my strenght went down almost 20% after being out of the gym for 2 weeks. I am now for the first time eating according to the FDA food pryamid. My energy is unbelievable and my strength is coming back fast. I feel good all the time, less soreness after workouts and my bodyfat is not changing, only adding muscle mass.
 
Kudos on getting yourself back together. As for the food pyramid...

don't trust atkins... don't trust the FDA... trust what works for you.

30lbs.... Damn man, that's a lot of muscle. yea yea, I know some of it was fat, but 30 lbs in 7 days. WOW. hope you're feeling better.
