Neil Peart

New member
One of the best drummers of all time, i fyou don't now who he is I suggest checking out some of his stuff, he is the drummer for Rush.

The guy from Helmet, the guy from Dream Theater and the guy from Lotus.

But Neil is on the top.

I've been a Rush fan since the early 80's. I haven't heard any other drummer that even compares...neither in creativity or ability. I'm glad the band is touring again...saw them a few months ago and it seems they just keep getting better and better!

I saw Neil on a Buddy Rich tribute show.

He was the worst drummer there.

Not to say he was bad, but he was outclassed by all the jazzbos.

Dennis Chambers.........best drummer......evar.:p

If you're talking 80's rock there are

Steve Smith, Stuart Copeland and Terry Bozzio to name a few.:D

No doubt Peart is one of the best drummers of all time. I have been a fan since 1979 and have seen every tour since 1981.

That being said - I DID see the Buddy Rich tribute tape and I have to agree, Neils' style of playing is not well suited to Jazz.
He loves the music and even did a little jazz bit during his drum solo this tour. He was good, but he appeared uncomfortable behind the kit.

Well, it's kind of hard to judge between rock and jazz, it's two different styles, there is no way to really define a good drummer, like there are no stats you can look at.

Yes Code is right- John Stanier from Helmet is BAD ASS! His fav drummer is Neil Pert by the way. Dont forget these awesome drummers:
Stephen Perkins
Joey Jordinson
Carter Beauford
Danny Carrey

-----
Its too bad Rush has such an annoying singer. It gets on my nerves.

Yeah you must be a great drummer if you think the mentioned drummers suck. Either that or your "mr. jazz drummers are the only "real" drummers guy."

your wrong on both accounts. These drummers are not the best the world has to offer. And B. I hate jazz.Oh and C. I'm a fucking great drummer.

Rush Sucks!
Peart is a mediocre drummer with a big set that looks good. The new breed of drummer in music today would shit all over him!

Sermon, did you reach drum god status yet?

My high school "Intro to Band" teacher used to say the same thing.

Sermon-
Ok then who are some great drummers? Let me guess, death metal drummers? If your such a great drummer what band are you in?

It is simply asinine to say that Stephen Perkins,John Stanier,Danny Carey and Carter Beauford are not some of the best if not among the best drummers on the planet. Any drummer who disvalues the influence of Neil Pert is hardly a drummer, that is a fact.

I've gone throught this with perkel in the music forum, you can refer to that, thers just too much to say.

"Any drummer who disvalues the influence of Neil Pert is hardly a drummer, that is a fact."

are you a drummer? So how the fuck would you give a valid opinion?
13 YEARSSSSSSSSSSSS right here bitch.I can't expect you to comprehend, after all you do spin records:p and we all know that takes some real talent:lmao:

Peart is god when it comes to percussion. IMO, the most versatile and talented percussionist and in the business.

Not to mention he does the lyrics for the band.

And yes, I am a former drummer.

ok,I'll take a step back from deathmetal, and simplly use jazz drummers to crush your opinion.
Post a song from peart.
I'll post you a song from either Chambers, or Weckyl.
Give up now.

Anyone who knows their musical history can have a valid opinion on any subject. You think you have to be a football player to know which one is good and which one is bad? Even if you only listen to one very specific kind of music, you have to as a musician respect these other drummers on technical ability alone.

Anyway, my girlfriend has been playing drums longer than you buddy. I have met allot of drummers in my time(including all that I mentioned above) and I doubt a single one would slag on another professional drummer, especially Neil Pert. That is like me(a singer and guitar player) saying Maynard James Keenan is a shitty singer.

You still haven't mentioned which drummers you like. I practiced next to Pete Sandoval for a few months, do you think he is a "good" drummer? Do you judge "good" by speed and technique or just what style they play?

BigRedCat said:

All of the above, but add to that versatility. That includes other percussion instruments, other instruments in general and/or lyric writing, etc......

That's one of the main reasons I am a huge fan of Neil Peart. Of course, I do also enjoy Rush's music period, so maybe I am a little prejudice towards his abilities.

No,but you think you know the game better than a pro,or any player on the field for that matter?

"Anyway, my girlfriend has been playing drums longer than you buddy"

hhaha, big shit, and Ill still kick her ass. There are things about members here that you don't know, and me being the best percussionist here is one of them.

"You still haven't mentioned which drummers you like"

Please refer to my post above stating, dennis chambers, and dave weckyl

"I practiced next to Pete Sandoval for a few months, do you think he is a "good" drummer? Do you judge "good" by speed and technique or just what style they play?"

No pete is good, not great, fast feet(thanx to tweek),sloppy hands.Style has nothing to do with whom I "decide" is good.

Your preaching to the choir son.You need to accept the fact that some people know more about certain things than you, just as I'm sure you know certain things I do not.Difference between us is,I would be able to accept it.

Do you think I dont know who Dave Weckl or Dennis Chambers are? Are you a pro? Do you have a record contract since your so amazing? Who have you recorded with?
There are tons of amazing drummers out there including Chambers and Weckl as well as Ginger Baker, Bill Bruford,Tim Alexander,Keith Moon, etc etc. Point being, what the hell are you arguing about? How can you say Dennis Chambers is "better" than Neil Pert? Now, you can not dislike Pert's style for whatever reason but to say that the drummers I mentioned are not good is retarded and you know it. If you were a decent drummer at all you wouldn't talk shit to other drummers. Are you in a band? With your ego I doubt it. Maybe your a great drummer, and if thats true I hope you dont have that attitude when you talk to other drummers because I have met Dennis Chambers and they guy is very humble.

You act like I am a newbie and dont know about how great your drumming is, well thats fine but prove it.Post up some links to your drumming. If your better than Pert I sure would like to hear it.

For reference:

Music appreciation is SUBJECTIVE!

What is great to one person, is crap to another.

We used to argue about which musician was better when we were kids.

There is NO better or worse. If it appeals to you then it will be good in your opinion.

Music isn't a competition, it is a form of expression.

*btw I'm 35 and have been playing guitar since the age of 12. I have toured the continent playing professionally and have taught music for over 10 years. Does that make my opinion any more valid than someone else's. I don't think so, even if I would like to believe so. ;)

You said ringo starr:lmao:

And your wrong again,I never said he sucked,I simply said he's not the worlds best,or even one of.He's old news man, keep up with the times for a valid arguement.

Pert is old news but Dave Weckl and Dennis Chambers are not? Interesting logic. Stromba summed it up- music is sujective but I still think you aren't shit if your going around talking trash about other drummers. You still didn't mention if your a pro drummer.

I will let Pete know his hands are sloppy. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of that one.

Also, I didn't make that list with Ringo on it, DRUMMERS did! Did you not read that it is from Modern Drummer Magazine? Again, to deny Ringo's influence is retarded. The Beatles are only a wee bit influencial in just about all forms of music and that's a fact- regarldless if you like the Beatles or not.

Joey Jordinson would school you. If your better than that I would know who you are.

I don't know shit about drummers, but Big Red knows his music Sermon. Much like we didn't know you were a drummer, there are plenty of things about Big Red the board doesn't know either.......but he does know his music, FACT.

if you keep going off on tangents,we won't be able to have a balanced discussion.

"Stromba summed it up- music is sujective but I still think you aren't shit if your going around talking trash about other drummers. "

When was anyone talking shit,I simplly disagreed with your oppinion, this makes me wrong?

"You still didn't mention if your a pro drummer."

I'm not a profesional drummer,I do on the other hand have multiple years of professional training. You??????
 Yeah.

"I will let Pete know his hands are sloppy. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of that one. "

you do that. He'll probably agree with me.

"Also, I didn't make that list with Ringo on it, DRUMMERS did! Did you not read that it is from Modern Drummer Magazine? Again, to deny Ringo's influence is retarded"

This thread WAS about talent, not influence,I would not deny his influence.Don't put words in my mouth.I kick ringos ass.

"Joey Jordinson would school you."

Probably, but you forget I never claimed to be the best at anything.I simply know talent when I hear it.
Go learn about drums then tell me whos good,I assure you, your tastes will change.
Brittany is one of the hottest singers today, does this mean she is the best?Simply because her name is in the lime light does'nt prove anything.MTV teenybopper.PWNED.

it's a universal joke here at ef.

Hey VG, just because you,and big red groove vinyl while simultaneouslly spanking to your oakenfold poster, does not mean he knows music. We all know dj's are not musicians, and are hardlly comparable.

There will always be guys like you that think they are hot shit but if they really were they surely wouldn't say so. No point in arguing with you really. You dont like John Stanier,Stephen Perkins,Joey Jordinson,Carter Beauford,Neil Pert and apparently Ringo.....so like whoever you want to like and good luck playing drums in your room.

By the way, what makes you think I am a DJ?My avatar with a picture of a giant red cat DJing? haha, that is a good one. I didn't know DJ's played hard rock. News to me.

Neil Pert still rules you! You know you love him!

And i don't listen to Oakenfold.....he's shite:D

Neil Peart is a great drummer.

No sense in arguing the point any more...you see, I'm a woman, and women are always right. ;)
