I'm trying to plan a summer vacation (July or August), and after looking at a lot of web sites an still having trouble deciding. Hope you folks have some suggestions, 'cause my travel agent is not really too helpful on this one.
Here's what I'd like in a perfect vacation spot:
* Beach-oriented, with beach sports, etc.
If everything goes according to plan, this will be sort of a coming-out party for my abs - should be at 7-8% BFP for the first time in my life, so I want a beach. No interest in scuba, but all the other usual water sports would be cool.
* Golf would be nice, but not absolutely necessary...I'm a really bad golfer. Exquisitely, breathtakingly bad.
* Someplace with organized activities (parties, etc.)
I'm kind of shy, and will be travelling alone (almost all my friends are in the married-with-children mode...), so somewhere with organized parties, etc. where it's easier to get to know people would be great. It can be hard for a shy person (especially an older one) travelling alone to meet people, which leads us to:
* Friendly for older single people
I'll hit the big four-oh in about five weeks (good God, shoot me!), so I want someplace that has a good mix of single people. Don't have to be my (elderly) age - I'm usually more comfortable around people younger that me than I am around people my own age, but not someplace where all the singles are under 25.
* Activities outside the resort
It'd also be nice to have someplace with day-trips outside the resort, and perhaps some clubs, etc
So far, the only real idea I've come up with is a Club Med, for the activities/social opportunities, etc., but I'm not set on the idea...I don't know anyone who's been to one in the last five or six years. Cancun is apparently the only adult-oriented resort in their chain that's open in the summer.
I've also looked at the Hedonism resorts (II/III, there isn't a "I" for some reason), and am leaning against them for two reasons: (a) all the boards I've looked at say that they are 70-80% couples, and (b) apparently - judging by a lot of the posts - they're perhaps a little wilder that I'd be comfortable with. The organized activities (games, etc.) sound fun - perhaps a little raunchy, but I'm OK with that. The exhabitionist sex in the hot tubs, etc. is going a little too far for me.
