Hey everyone, I need some ideas here. This is a board with a lot of people, so I am hoping that some of you may be able to help here. My mom and her fiancé have been together for about 11 years now (I don't know why they are not married, but that's beside the point). Well, they recently found out that Mike (her lover) has a child who is now 14 years old (Eric). He came to IL from Florida for a visit with his father for the first time, and he had a great time. Well, he wanted to move to IL to spend some time with his father. Once his mother found out about it, she had her phone disconnected and has stayed out of touch.
Well, today, the Eric’s grandma (on his mothers side) calls us and has Eric there. Eric and his grandma both want mike to get custody of the Eric because his mother can't handle him. She has been somewhat abusive towards Eric, and she has him scheduled to go to a work camp on January 18th to live there. This kid is a very good kid from what I can tell. I pretty much cared for him while he was here because my mom and mike both work. He was an awesome kid and very well mannered. I feel that his mother is the one who has a problem and that feeling was backed up when HER mother called us tonight.
Anyway, we’ve got about 30 days to try to get custody of Eric before work camp comes along and we have communications with his family through his grandmother. My mom doesn’t want to go through court for fear that it will take too long, so she is thinking about trying to get some custody papers mailed down to his grandma so she can try to convince Eric’s mother to sign them. My mom asked me to look around on line to see what all can be done, so here I am. Please help us out here, and thank you for your support.
