need some advice

i'll be going to bed in about an hour, so any advice i can get tonight would be great. i'd post this in the training forum, but everyone hangs out here, so i figured i'd get a faster response.

(don't laugh at the amount of weight i'm discussing) :)

i'm going for a flat bench PR tomorrow, but unsure of what i should shoot for. my past PR was the beginning of december when i pushed 200x3, barely, but i got it. mid january i started 5x5 and it wasn't until last week that i had to take my flat bench to a 5x3. i worked 200lbs on flat bench last week and nailed every rep in every set. i knew i was fatigued after that, but i loaded up 215 and put it up once and while it was hard, it was smooth. then i tried 225 and didn't hit it. my ego stayed intact because i knew i was worn out.

any advice on what to shoot for tomorrow? warm up sets as well?

this is the last week of the regular semester for me. i'm not lifting during finals week due to a screwy finals schedule. i'm overdue for a break anyway.

thanks for any help.

Do something like ...

bar for 10 warmup
95 for 10 warmup
135 for 3
165 for 1
185 for 1
205 for 1
225 for 1
If you get that, add 10 more or so ...

Good luck bro. FUCKING NAIL IT.

Go for broke and shoot for the 225 right of the bat and bump it from there don't feel bad about the weight after fatigue, besides my bench sucks its my Squat and deads, I might even try to add an extra 10 and push my luck,You'll do it this time bro.

good call on doing all those singles. i didn't really think about doing that for my chest. i did do something similar for a squat PR on friday. i worked from 95x15 up to 255x3. after that, i did 275x1, 295x1, 305x1, then the biggie....315x1.

Sound advice bro and less likely to tear shit up which I do often.

Shoot for 315.

Then if you don't make it, when you drop down to 225, it will feel light as a feather.

This actually work?

It sounded ludicrous at first, but the more I think about it, the better it sounds.

only if you spot me. dunno how many guys in my gym could lift that up off of my chest while i was gasping for life. we're talking about a college gym. the 2 big activities are flat bench and BB curls. i'm one of 4 people i've seen all semester that deadlift. another one of those 4 is my training partner. i don't see too many guys in there benching over 300.

but that is a good point about 225 feeling light as a feather afterwards....

breakfast tomorrow

9am - 5g creatine titrate (it was free), 5g creatine monohydrate. might be mental, but it seems to work.

9-930 - 1/2 serving weight gainer (450 calories) along with a scoop and a half of whey.

i'll be stretching and doing warmup sets just after noon. i'd love to get something in me closer to hitting the gym, but the class i have right before there is no eating or drinking allowed. damn carpeted lecture halls. i've been doing the weight gainer/whey combo in the morning for a while though. i've got plenty of energy by the time i get to the gym. i tried getting by on less food in the morning and it was a BIG no-no.

we'll see what happens tomorrow. now i'm starting to get excited.

I actually tried a pr on bench today..Flat bench with a bar, I never do always db inclines or declines smith machine inclines etc. I find these are easy on my shoulders. I always try to warm up my shoulders with a light weight and stretch them out very well first then 10 X bar, 10 x 135, 8 x 225, 6 x 265, 3 x 315 and finished with 335 x 1. Didn't go heavier because I didn't trust the lady who works the desk to be able to get the bar up if something happened. I would warm up with the bar then 135, a few reps with 185 then go for the 225. Good luck bud I am sure you will get it.

bor you need a docs note saying you need to eat,I got one and no profs cant give me shit,Ive had a new note every year since grade 10,cant miss meals bor

but 225 sounds reasonable,if you feel you can hit anymore than 1 rep go for 235

Warmup with 185x5 then go for 480.

Thats the way I did it.

aw hell, why don't i just throw every plate i can on the bar and warm up with that first? then 225 and even 235 should be flying up off my chest ;)
