Upgrading? you have a upgrade disk, or a full install?
If you wanna keep your current stuff on your comp, with the new op system, just stick the disk in, and you should be able to choose upgrade..

Otherwise, reboot your computer into a dos prompt. type "Format C:" without the quotations.. let it reformat, restart, go into your bios, change it to boot from cd-rom, then save and exit, put in the disk, start up the comp.. it should get you into a dos option screen with such options as : Install Windows Xp. then just follow the directions broly.

You will be better off doing a fresh install with XP.

I've tested the upgrade path and the fresh install. The OS works better and faster from a fresh install.

Back up everything that you want to keep to CD then format and install.

hey any of you guys know how to set my pc to boot from the cd rom, instead of the harddrive? im gonna full install xp, but its not booting up from the cd rom drive. thanks

Press delete while your computer is doing the memory quickcheck and hd quickcheck. (the first screen you see), one of the options there will be 1st BOOT DEVICE:.. set it to cd-rom, save and exit.

You have change it in the bios/cmos. When the computer boots you'll have to hit del, F1 or ESC depending on your computer to enter bios. Then change boot order. It's probably set floppy, harddrive, CD Rom.

Dude, whatever you do, make sure and copy a boot disk to floppy. IMO, Win98se has the best boot disk. You can download it from microsoft if you have another OS.
