i take them to get high and remove stress from my life. at first, about 8 months ago, one vic every week or so worked great and felt great. it helped me at my sales job sell more and helped me in social gatherings. now im looking for a way to take something everyday. whether its vics, percs or oc, i feel like i almost need them, yet things are getting worse. i just want to get back to enjoying life without them like i used to. im not physically addicted, because i can quit now and never go through withdrawal,it is just a mental addiction. if i keep going down this road i see bad things. whenever im not on them all i think about is how great that hour or two feels if i take something. what can i do? does anyone have any advice or experience with this? i need help now.

look up the phone number for narcotics anonymous and call them. i really dont think limiting yourself to a discussion board is in your best interest.

i have known a few people who made good use of this info. but i am not an expert in this so...

I have been masking the fact that I have been binging a little for about a month. I am glad I caught myself. P-30's are the whip..... But I am now medicated by the doc again for my behavior problems as I think I have been breaking down a bit. Once you can admit you have a problem bro.... that is the first step to recovery. And I don't know the Twelve Traditions or AA or NA.... But I did have to see my doctor this last time. I am too embarrassed to say what I have been doing right now.

There is help on this site bro and you definitely aren't alone. PM me anytime man.... I am serious. I will get back with you.

Join the group man, its in the groups section. I believe new beginnings. Hit it up man.

Mark def join the group that alcatraz mentioned, they are great people and they can all relate on some level and also be a great form of support.

As far as getting help in real life you should contact someone, there are narcotic anonymous, they may be able to refer you to assistance. You can always look up in the phone book for substance abuse counseling and go from there. Remember, there are many places around that can help you or atleast point you in the correct direction. Please don't give up, you know that you need the help that is the first step in making things better. Being open, being honest, and wanting the change is what is going to benefit most. Please keep everyone updated and feel free to pm us all if ever needed. Also again, join that group I think it would be good for not only you but also for the other members.

There is a lot of great advice so far. in addition:

- Remove yourself from the environment that endorses that addiction (ie: avoid whomever you get the drugs from).

- Talk to your doctor. Up here (Canada), we put people with severe opiate addiction on methadone (I'm not familar with the US and their policies).

- Support is KEY KEY KEY! If you have a significant other or somebody that you trust wholeheartedly, tell them, and get them to constantly check up on you to make sure you're clean. Sometimes having external motivation like that is really helpful.

- Find an alternate activity that's less harmful whenever you feel like you need the opiates (like working out, jumping jacks, use your imagination). Sometimes taking your mind off the material you're addicted to, even transiently, is enough to break the cycle.

- Lastly, and most simply: If you really want to quit, just don't do the drug! This may seem like no-brainer advice, but the most successful people that I've seen kick any sort of addiction, somehow make it up in their mind that they're going to kick the addiction (be it drugs, bad habits, eating poorly, etc). It's amazing the resilience and tenacity of these people.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck with kicking your addiction. Take care.

OK, the great thing is that you haven't reached physical addiction yet. You must quit before that happens. Opiate withdrawal is total HELL! Right now you need to develop strong will power and cut off ties to people who are either selling you the drugs or giving them to you. I dug myself into a pretty big hole with hydrocodone and darvocet. Right now I'm 7 months clean. I don't have time right now for a long post but I'll try to come up with some ideas to help you through this.

Also, someone mentioned methadone treatment. DO NOT go that route. Methadone is a strong opiate that does nothing except keep you out of withdrawal. Since physical addiction isn't your problem, you do not want to take methadone. You will end up addicted to methadone. Every doctor I have talked to has been against methadone for treatment, especially as a long term treatment.

Ditto this. WILL POWER is the true key to ending this addiction. You do not seem to be too far gone at this point. That makes it critical to end the problem now! Things can and likely will get worse if left untreated. Opiates are not drugs to fool around with. They are about as physically addictive as you can get.

I was a very bad opioate and cocaine addict. You need rehab and suboxone treatment. Its a med that will block withdrawl and subsititue the opioate. Much better than methadone. Look into it bro and best of luck.
