Hey bros,

All my life I have wanted to be a sports agent. Since I do not have the gifts to be a professional athlete. I have looked and looked and have come up with nothing to show me what degrees I need, how to get started, or anything to help. I am coming to you as there seems to be a lot of very insightful guys on here to help out. I have tried google for searches with no luck. Maybe I am not typing in the right searches but I would like some help as it is my dream and I want it to come true. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thank you for trying to help a guy trying to reach for his goal. Also, I do know it is a very competetive field to get into but I am always up for that challenge. Maybe there is a few on here that could shed some light. Maybe you guys know one or two I can correspond with to me get me started. Any help at all is appreciated. Peace to all you good bros and lots of karma for those who help out. Peace....Alteredgenes

Law school is the typical path many of them take. I actually interviewed someone yesterday for a position at my company that wanted to be a sports agent but thought my agency would make him more well rounded in the sports marketing world. Not sure if it was the best move, but if there's one thing I have learned it's that there is no clear/direct career path in the sports industry.

Law school is a big, important step. Look up sports agents in your area and ask to do informational interviews with them. Is there a college near you that has a sports management program? You might want to talk to a professor there. Take internships in the sports industry - even better if you can get one at a sports agency.

I will say this though (and I am not one to step on a person's dreams) - you have to at least know what you are getting into. I don't know alteredgenes' story, but many people want to get into the sports world (whether it's to be an agent, in marketing, events, whatever) cause all they see is the glory, glamour. I have had so many clients and their customers/accounts tell me on-site at an event how much fun and how amazing my job must be - but they have no clue what actually goes into it. Same with many kids I interview or that even take trainee jobs at my company. They don't do the research to actually find out what the job entails and are disappointed when they see the non-exciting part of the job.
