Mainly, we'll be using this for our soon coming baby. I don't know anything. Was thinking of buying at costco due to getting cash back there.

Anyone got any recommendations? Know what features I should be considering? Any other guidelines, etc?

Get a Canon HV20.

Your kid will love you, when 20 years later -- he can see himself in HD.

Until computer technology (eg: blu ray writers) mature - capture to computer in SD. But keep the HD tapes around for later.

That's what my parents do.

Do you really need a dedicated video camera? Most digitals will shoot a video of a few minutes and the quality can be pretty good.

My friend has the JVC, it's pretty slick. Really small...

What's your price range CEO?

I hadn't really thought about price. I was looking at a JVC Everio GZ-MG365B at costco for $500.

60 GB Hard Disk
KONICA MINOLTA 35x optical zoom
Image Stabilizer
2.7" 16:9 Widescreen Clear LCD
14 Hour 20 minute recording at the highest quality resolution (Ultra-DVD Movie). Up to 75 hours at web quality resolution.

Seemed like a pretty good "average" quality (maybe slightly better?) model.

I think their most expensive one is $1000. They have a Cannon HG10 HD for $750. Fuck if I know! Anyone recommend a good one that will hopefully not be obsolete in a couple years or less!??!!?
