NDN - ever use Oracle?

I've just used SQL Server and MySQL, but might have to use Oracle on an upcoming project. Trying to see if there are any major differences.

Never had to maintain the server, but I have used it a lot via J2EE.

It isn't a whole lot different - they have very slightly different words for things.
I think the tool to maniuplate the DB is TOAD. Not sure what it stands for, but when you start up the program is makes a ribbit sound.

There is a ton of stuff on the net for it, so that is nice - if you aren't setting up the DB, then it is pretty much exactly like the other servers.
If you have to actually write stored procedures or if you are setting up the database, then it is slightly different (a lot different if you have to use Unix too and you are only used to Windows).

Ugh.. I'd rather right stored procedures than inline SQL code (It will be an ASP.NET project) I'll have to take a look at the differences

They are pretty slight. It is all basically the same concepts, just occasionally slightly different wording from what I remember.

It has been over a year that I last used it, but it was nothing that just looking at online documentation didn't resolve.

TOAD (Tool for Oracle Application Developers) rules.

Oracle was giving out "Corporate TOADie" t-shirts at some convention. I love wearing it.

Wonder why... TOAD isnt an Oracle product.

<SQL>
<SELECT from="myTable">
<COL name="primaryKey" type="int"/>
<COL name="userID" type"varchar" />
<WHERE>
<COL name="lastName" value="Smith" />
</WHERE>
</SELECT>
</SQL>

I know it's from some 3rd party whose sole product hinges on oracle.

Oh.. so Oracle wasnt giving em out.

Now youre making sense.
'Bout time.

I think this should be moved to the EF-computer nerd domination forum

Look for the big diff to be in how they handle joins and shit.

On Oracle I had to use "old school" joins that are considered inefficient on the newer systems. But they were faster on Oracle.

I don't recall exactly what the differences are without thinking up an example and I don't really feel like it.

PL/SQL Developer makes TOAD eat shit.

(so says our tech dept.)

They both need purdier splash screens.

Well, I'm downloading the files from their site... Maybe I'll install it on a box tonight and give it whirl

FUCK HIM, MAN!!!

Is he just trying to make me mad, or what?

TOAD rocks CC. Don't let AAP get up in your sphincter like that.

Man, I'm so glad I came over to the DB admin board.

I'd hate to think I was surfing Elite Fitness. Those assholes suck.

How 'bout some hot, sweaty ERDs?

Racks are warmer. :)

Never really been into ERDs. Everything is drawn as a bunch of squares when I develop a DB - but I haven't built a really large DB.
