WODIN

The Pres is advocating an National I.D. System where we all have to get a personal I.D. card from good old unlce sam that says you are who you say you are. This is bullshit....wtf do I need another form of I.D for, there isn't a system made that cannot be beat so tell Uncle Sam to fuck off on this one! Like I need another line to stand in!! The Brits are trying to rush the same system through parliment right now.

Tell big brother to bite ya!!!!!!

Right on

What is another form of identification going to do? We have driver's licenses, passports, SS cards, etc. Now the gov't thinks another ID will make a damn bit of difference?

Yeah, it'll give the false ID makers more business! Many of the terrorists had false ID's that came from South America, and they were obviously good enough to get them all they needed to take out the WTC and hit the Pentagon.

So what, another ID will only cost them a bit more, yet how much will it cost the US to institute another form of ID and all of us to go through the royal pain in the ass to get it. Unless a new ID is somehow forge-proof (which is unlikely), it would be a waste of time, money and resources.

WODIN, I TURNED 26 YESTERDAY I AM ALMOST HALF AS OLD AS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ALSO THESE NEW CARDS WOULD HAVE TO HAVE SOME SORT OF COMPUTER CHIP IN THEM AS PLAIN OLD PVC CARD OR LAMINATED ID'S ARE TO EASY TO FORGE.

I find it ironic that a republican so-called conservative president would be for some kind of nation ID system. That would seem more like a democrat type move.

What the fuck do you Bush supporters have to say to this gross erosion of freedom????

I THINK THE ID'S ARE A GREAT IDEA. MATTER OF FACT, WHY DONT WE IMPLEMENT A 7:00PM CURFEW FOR WEEKDAYS AND 8:00 PM ON WEEKENDS. ALSO, AN ARMED GUARD ON EVERY BLOCK TO MAKE SURE WE DONT COME OUTSIDE AFTER THOSE TIMES WOULD BE GOOD ALSO. GOD FORBID MY DOG WANTS TO GO OUT PAST 7PM.

Are there any links to this?

The only thing that I have read is about making foreigners have a national id.

If this is in fact true, then as stated above we are moving even closer to a police state. This is in the same category as registering your guns.

There is no need to give up our civil liberties just because these politicians think they can stop terroism. The day that this happens is the day that the terrorists have beaten the United States of America.

Show me the link....

This is fucked up. I don;t think it will happen but it is not good.....

This is the only thing I can find...

BUSH CONTEMPLATES NATIONAL ID CARD FOR ALL CITIZENS

**Exclusive**

A highly controversial option has emerged for use in fighting terrorism in the United States: A national ID card which would be issued to every citizen.

A proposal for the creation of a national ID card was presented to President Bush in recent days, top government sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

The ID card plan was included in a classified briefing outlining steps the nation can take to limit exposure to terror attacks.

Bush briefly discussed the ID card option with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, according to insiders.

MORE

"I can tell you this, the president is very reluctant [to issue a national ID card]," a top White House source said on Sunday. "But we must look at all options."

Just as House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt [D-MO] says Congress should quickly move to open debate on security measures such as a national ID card.

"We are in a new world," Gephardt said. "This event will change the balance between freedom and security."

SAFETY FROM A CHIP

ORACLE Chairman and CEO Larry Ellison this weekend called for the United States to create a national identification system -- and offering to donate the software to make it possible -- free-of-charge.

"We need a national ID card with our photograph and thumbprint digitized and embedded in the ID card," Ellison said in an interview Friday night on the evening news of KPIX-TV in San Francisco.

Blair has tentatively approved identity cards which will be introduced for the first time in Britain.

The universal identity card leads major papers in London on Monday:

'ID CARDS FOR ALL' fronts the TIMES.

'IDENTITY CARDS ON THE WAY IN FIGHT ON TERROR' headlines the MAIL.

'WE'RE ALL GOING TO HAVE ID CARDS' splashes the SUN.

MORE

Blair has opted for a voluntary scheme in issuing the card, rejecting a compulsory "on demand" card because of connotations with Nazi Germany, where lack of proper identity cards could result in instant arrest, according to reports.

However, it will be virtually impossible for anyone to live a normal life without the new ID card in England - possession of a valid card will be necessary for boarding an aircraft, buying gas, opening a bank account, starting a job or claiming government benefits.

UK. Home Secretary David Blunkett on Sunday questioned the idea of a "voluntary card".

"It would not be a great deal of help" in the fight against terrorism, Blunkett said on BBC1's On the Record.

Blunkett stressed the need to balance the fight against terrorism with the freedoms of a liberal society.

But he said that his "instincts" were that beating terror must take priority and that politicians' ability to act must not be hamstrung by an excessively legalistic approach to human rights.

New laws are expected to be rushed through the U.K.'s Parliament in coming weeks to allow for the legality of a mandatory ID card.

In a nationwide poll released Sunday, a stunning 85% of Brits would welcome a national ID card system in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the United States, with an overwhelming majority calling for the cards to be packed with information to clearly identify the holder: These include photograph (97%), date of birth (96%) eye color (92%), a finger print (85%), DNA details (75%), criminal records (74%) and religion (67%).

Stateside, U.S. Rep. George Gekas [R-PA], chairman of the House immigration subcommittee, told reporters last week that Congress could no longer reject out of hand a national ID card system for citizens.

In a survey released Wednesday by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, seven of 10 Americans favored a requirement that citizens carry a national identity card at all times. The proposal had particularly strong support from women.

ORACLE's Ellison said in the electronic age, little privacy is left anyway.

"Well, this privacy you're concerned about is largely an illusion,'' he told PIX's anchorman Hank Plante. "All you have to give up is your illusions, not any of your privacy. Right now, you can go onto the Internet and get a credit report about your neighbor and find out where your neighbor works, how much they earn and if they had a late mortgage payment and tons of other information."

Developing...

Some of the FAR right-wing publications I read (we won't get into names!) are comparing the Department of "Homeland Defense" to the Russia's K.G.B.--which was at first termed a "security organization." (I can't remember the exact translation, sorry.)

As far as the I.D., I could support all foreigners having to have one...to get a job, go to the doctor, etc., just to make sure they're on the books, paying taxes, etc.

hey my cat has an id chip in him, if he ever gets lost they just scan him and his name and adress pop up. I could be just like my cat -COOL!

The thought of it doesn't particularly bother me - however, it's usless if it's something that can be faked - like all the forms ID we already have in our possession.

OFF TOPIC (sorta):
Unrelated but - it would be nice if it were to weed out the illegal immigrants in my particular neck of the woods. (Which I must confess my harsh attitude towards them comes to a surprise to even to myself.)

To make matters worse there are legal immigrants by me that will lie and/or avoid admitting that they have papers so they can get paid off the books. BOO on them and those that hire and pay them off the books.

in france first they made it voluntary

then when a sufficient no.of the popultation got it they made it compulsuary....i fail to see the huge benefits it would make against terrorism and i would hate to think the government is trying to rush through contreversial bills on the back of such horrorifc times.

we are already the most watched country we have more CCTV on us than anyone else,. now they have face recognition...go figure

I AGREE BLAIR. ANYONE NOT BORN IN THE U.S. (EXCLUDING BABIES BORN TO AMERICANS OUT OF COUNTRY) SHOULD HAVE AN I.D. CARD. IT SHOULD BE MANDATORY. GREAT IDEA.

Wait a minute, this card will be issued and somebody will then say "I think it would be a good idea to put your medical information on it so if you're ever in trouble the info can be accessed"..then comes using it as a Debit/Credit card...tax info...more personal information, etc

Then at some point, there will be too many 'irresponsible" people losing their cards so what will they do? Start implanting a chip under the skin in the arm or wrist-yes, it sounds like the mark of the beast..

The plan to do this has been on the back burner for at least 20 years and this is finally the chance for them to bring it out to fruition.

BTW why penalize American citizens for a actions of a few deranged terrorists-it should be the other way around!!!!!!

It is a waste.

Whether it can be faked now is not
important.
The fact remains it will be able to be faked
in the feature, like all others before.

As a person going into the military I figure Uncle Sam will have enough info on me already. What good would something like this do?? I'm against it and I'm sure most people will be against this

Unlike RyanH, I'm man enough to admit when the president for whom I voted is doing stupid shit.

This is stupid shit.

the crazy thing is the majorit of people are for it over here as the government is using the terrorist attacks as a sort of stepping stone to get all this shit through the commons and stuff

do you know during the superbowl everty crowd attendee face was scanned by camera without their knowledge. 16 minor criminals were found but the police chose to do nothing.

yet when these supporters of the ID card are asked would they like a bunch of police officers checking their identities when they see them doing anything, well then they change their tune.

shit man if they do that ill pelt them with eggs so the politician throws the first punch then i'll have my fun :)

BEHOLD A PALE HORSE

Anyone ever read that book?

The id chip has bee around since the early 70's. It can monitor ALL citizens by satellite, all monetary transactions could be performed by reducing all forms of currancy to credits. It has the potential to effectivly over night wipe out crime.

However I do believe it was a Marxist/Communist that once said "happiness is slavery". (Nietzsche I believe)

Then you'd be condemming yourself to hell because this computer chip ID chip is the Goddamm mark of the BEAST!! Read revelations if any of you think Im full of shit, it speciafically makes referance to putting something in your forehead or hand

Wait till they want to start tatooing us with our ssn's or something like that. The Romans did that with their military to prevent desertion.

It is 100% bullshit. I will not do it ever. Even if they execute me!
