I have many sons and many daughters. Each of my sons has twice as many sisters as he does brothers, but each of my daughters has as many brothers, as she does sisters. How many sons and how many daughters do I have?

Good answer. 20 people at my job were working on that one for over an hour. Idiots. I had to tell them the answer.

Now the difficult part. Where did I get this riddle? Its an obscure source.

Too much thought on a Friday evening. Time to drink beer and act stupid.

I would say no kids. Why?

BECAUSE YOU HAD TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS DOING THESE STUPID RIDDLES!!!!!!!!

Guys, jnuts got the answer with 3 sons, 4 daughters already.

I got the riddle from a series of fantasy books referred to as the Lone Wolf series, when I was 9 years old.

1) a) son -> 2 * sister = brother
b) daughter -> sister = brother

2) Add a + b

2*sister + sister = brother + brother

then add those reference "daughter" and "son" because they are "sister" and "brother" as well... so

2 * sister + sister + daughter = brother + brother + son

= 4 daughters and 3 sons

Is this equation right?

Yes

Yes, your equation is correct. Most people fail to take into accound that each son and daughter has brothers and sisters, but they are not their OWN brother or sister, but you caught onto that in your formula. Karma for you and jnuts.

Thanks slobberknocker. Yeah I'm a fantasy dork. I just got talked into DMing another D&D game twice a month. I'll have people driving to my place from both Dallas (4 hour drive) and Houston (1.5 hour drive), for the game. Hmmm... how did Royce talk me into this... I haven't done this in over 2 years.

rev, I have to spread my karma more, pop me a PM to remind me later to hit you.
