My training with Joe Ladnier

I have to thank pwr_machine for the best present ever!!

We just returned and this quite possibly could have been the best thing I could have done for my lifting. I gotta start off by saying this guy is freaking HUGE! I just couldn't help but stare. He was super nice and down to earth too. He he, his gym was in his backyard. That was sweet!

Pwr_machine and I decided that we wanted him to look at my bench most of all. Even so, Joe wanted to check out my squat form first. I went really light, just 135. He had me sitting back, pushing my knees out, and squatting on the outside of my feet. I kinda knew to do these things already, but with him there telling me exactly what to do, everything clicked. They felt great! And, doing it this way, I did feel a difference in my squat shoes and deadlift shoes. I'm going to send off my squat shoes to get the soles redone so they are flat. I'll have a video posted shortly.

Next we did bench. This is what we spent the rest of the time on. My arch was good and feet placement were good. He had me change a few things though. First, he brought my grip in just a little more. I was benching with index fingers on the rings and I moved it to ring finger. He moved it one more to pinky on the rings. Next, he had me tuck my elbows. Now I've heard of this for a long time and even gave it a shot before, but I wasn't doing it quite right. This time it was right! I had so much explosion off my chest!! It was amazing. The last thing he changed was my bar path. Nothing too drastic, but on the way up instead of pushing in a straight line up, he had me come back over my eyes. Not what I expected, but this was working wonders for me. So, I warmed up and then put my shirt on (Titan Fury). Then it went like this:
165 x 1
185 x 1
215 x 1
225 x 1
240 x 1 <---- PR!!!! And I wasn't even training for heavy weights!

Woohoo!!
Unfortunately, I only got 225 on video. I ran out of tape :( I'll have that up in a minute too.

Then we did some lockouts, but I was a little pooped from all that benching (plus I just did chest yesterday!).

Didn't get to touch on deadlift, but I think I will be making another trip down there soon so we can look at that.

I had such a great time and got to meet an incredible guy. Fun times!! :D

Oh yeah, I'm sold on sniffing ammonia now too. It rules!

Joe was very cool. He was really easy to work with. I like his approach to analyzing her lifts. Rather than saying this is the way it has to be, he made small easy to understand changes along the way and gave good explanations to why he was doing what he was doing.

On top of that, he's got good taste in music. We were rockin!

And to completely top it all off, he wasn't a big fan of WSB! I'm not the only one!

Overall, it was a great experience. I think Bigguns15 really learned alot this evening. I look forward to her next meet to see some new PR's!

Good lord....

Looking forward to how this session helps you overall.

I think she's going to improve quite a bit. It's amazing how much I learned too. I've been a successful coach for dozens of lifters(not at all bragging), but let it be known that you can never learn too much. I was very impressed.

Awesome, awesome, awesome.

My computer here at the office doesn't have sound, so I'll have to download the vids at home as well. However, they looked great.

Looking forward to how this session helps you overall.

Not to hijack your thread BG, but can I ask why you aren't a big fan of WSB pwr_machine?

Various reasons. However, I'll politely decline answering the specifics of why. The guy sure knows how to market his stuff though. :D

Killer job per usual, Bigguns. :) I'm so glad to get to see so many clips of your progress and hard work - keep it up girl!

Well done. Your arch on bench is pretty incredible. Can't wait to see your weight rocket up with your elbows tucked.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Thanks :)

I am so excited about this new technique. We were driving home last night and I was just wishing I could bench right then!

glad you guys had a good time, and learned alot, he seems like a good teacher. btw did he say why he wasnt a fan of wsb, and why arent you? not trying to get down on either of you, everyone needs to do what they think is best, just wondering your feelings on our training.

Well if she wore a Westside shirt to a USAPL meet lol... well I don't think anything would be passed.

The guy? What guy? Vladimir Zatsiorsky? Mel Siff (couldn't be him; he's not alive)? Louie Simmons?

BTW, that new bench technique is exactly what we learned at Nazareth. :)

LOL, well to each his own, I sort of knew he didn't like WSB, could it be because he's behind me on the top 100? lol j/k he's a good lifter and not here so I won't say anything.

And I think the new technique she learned is pretty cool. Good stuff.
