My son left for navy boot camp.

yep he will love the first 3 days ....no sleep and lots of yelling , good times

He said he was going into the Navy, so he better get used to free time and relaxation!!
LOL, hope he likes it and much respect for him for doing that at a time like this!!

Great lakes ?

We did some I.T. installs there once for the DOD one Summer years ago.
And what I remember was a bunch of freaked out looking 10 yr old squids
being forced to running everywhere they went even indoors.

Sweating and Stinking up the hallways in their long sleeve denim shirts,
heavy dungaree jean pants and calf high boots in 90 degree heat.

I guess it could be worse if he were going to Marine or Army Boot or if they
still had the Orlando NTC open and he were down here drilling in this swamp.

I was at RTC Great Mistakes from late September to late November 1984. The first few days are a blur, always enroute to somewhere. After that you get locked into a routine, only free time was three hours after church (at least signs in) on Ricky Sunday. Everyone goes to church to get the Chapel rag. Every time you pass through the tunnel under the street you have to sing Anchors Aweigh.

i was kidding mother fuckers...thats just what ive heard all my life from my brother in the army....and im sure they have their jokes about every type of service

Thanks friends for all the great post, and not so great...it has helped alot...I miss the boy, we were lifting together, had some great times. I am a USN vet 1981-1992, now a disabled vet, but not unable...God bless you all.

I went to RTC Orlando March 1981, then to Great Lakes for MM A school. Got there mid April, quite a difference. Orlando was actually a nice base, surprised they closed it down. By the way basic training is now only six weeks.

Snipes Castle eh? I did Boot camp, BE&E and ET "A" at Great Mistakes. I returned to GL about a year later after completing Naval Nuclear Power School at NTC Orlando. I returned to Great Mistakes after I dropped out of prototype reactor training to finish portions of ET "A" school nukes didn't take.

Too much politics for reactor quals. "Sorry, I won't sign you off till you buy me and my buddies a coke" doesn't fly with me. Now I guess there are seperate Nuclear Power schools for the MM,EM and ET ratings.

I went in nuke mm, was disqualified medically for some stupid shit i had a waiver for. Went to the Josephus Danials CG-27, then by reason of breach of contract was allowed to go to another school. Changed rates to AT, went to Memphis, Norfolk for shore duty then to the Forrestall CV-59. Stayed in 12 years 81-92. Got out on disability-kind of forced out due to all the cut backs.
