There's a cold that's been going around the southern USA that is particularly vicious. Just about everyone I know has been through it recently, including me. Starts with a cough, then fever, aches & pains, dizziness, and then the congestion hits. The fever and dizziness last about a week, then the other symptoms slowly begin to subside for another week. By the end of week 2 you think you're over it, but a mild cough lingers and some congestion symptoms seem to come and go. I had it three weeks ago, and even today I had a coughing fit and now tonight my sinuses are getting all itchy and irritated again.

I found that after about three or four days, I stopped responding to OTC meds, so I've had to rotate them. Say, three days of Dayquil, then three days of Advil Cold & Flu, then three days of Aleve Cold & Flu, then back to the Dayquil, and so on...

there are a number of reasons that your meds might not be effective

firstly, if you have been using nasal decongestants for a long time (ie 2 weeks) non stop, you will be tolerant to them, and you will actually have rebound congestion when you go off them.

then, you might be using one that is not effective for you, or is too lowly dosed, and should try another

then, you should consider a drug combination - antihistamines slow mucous production, and so using them at the same time as another anticongestant ie psuedoephedrine, which acts on blood vessels and not mucous, might yield a better outcome.

then you could try decongesting them using non drug measures such as a steam inhalation - the best way to do it is to have a hot shower, and breathe all that steam in, letting it mix with your mucous and clear it all out, massaging your sinuses (rub from your cheekbones towards your nose, and force the mucous to drain into your nose...yes i know thats a freaking disgusting thought)

apart from that, youre screwed, just get some moistened tissues so that you dont tear your nose up

go chat to your pharmacist or something, they can drug you up pretty well if they want to :) personally i dont screw around when it comes to things like this, i jsut throw handfuls of drugs at people and completely bomb them into happiness :) while telling them NEVER to try this at home, or they could die, have a heart attack, or wake up with a penis 3 inches long (yes some drugs do this...and alien amp pharm, it only reaches 3 inches if it started out bigger than that...drugs WONT make your dick grown, end of story. sorry bor.)

errr thats it :) have fun :)

That shits going on up here in MI also bro. I'm going on 2 weeks. And our doc told us its a strain on flu.

mr. db... I got hit with the same thing about 3 weeks ago and I still got some nasty chest congestion. I think that's going around everywhere.

As for the rest of you... you're still using drugs to clear out your sinuses? Pssh, what is this, amateur night? Do a google search for netipot and reap the benefits...
