Seeing as it's Memorial Day, I wanted to get some ideas from my head and into writing:
I think our country has completely forgotten what it is supposed to stand for. It used to be a great country; now that is buried somewhere underneath a big pile of political, racial, financial, and legal problems that we all basically brought on ourselves from laziness, greed, deceit, and ignorance.
It is amazing how closely you can relate the seven deadly sins to how our country is falling apart: Pride, greed, envy, sloth, gluttony, lust, and anger. We're all guilty of them at some time or another, yet the majority of us don't seem to give a shit. That's how "modernized" and "efficient" and "civilized" our society has become. Granted, we're not the worst; just look at the people of the Middle East. They have truly lost their way moreso than I ever hope we do.
Now I'm not particularly religious, hell, the last time I've been to church was Christmas. However, the above 7 examples should be easy to acknowledge as making a damn lot of sense, when you think of all the damage that can be done when they're committed.
I for one would like to see these damaging effects on our country reversing themselves soon, or at least controlled, and that has to begin with every person, individually. The greatest speaker in the world doesn't hold a candle to each individuals' own motives and ambitions. No one will change unless they want to.
Seeing as Memorial Day is coming up, I think we owe it to ourselves and to the people who died for this country and our freedom to at least acknowledge and accept our shortcomings as a society and as individuals, and to at the very least keep ourselves in check.
Everything starts with The People.
Please feel free to give your own opinions on this country as well.
