My parakit doesn't hate me anymore.

My parakeet doesn't hate me anymore.

I got a parakeet and it hated me. It went crazy as if I was going to kill him even if I changed water.
Then I used a control game.
I emptied its food tray and let it stay hungry for couple of hours.
Then I offer it food. I did that a few times.
It started jumping up and down on seeing me, because I meant food.
But it still didn't let me touch it. It will try to bite my fingers whenever my hand came close. But they were not real bites, just sort of protest.
This morning I put food on my hand and it jumped on my hand for the first time and ate. Although it is still not comfortable with my hand.
I think with another week of training, it would be fine with me.

Too much to take care of.
I am also out of town for prolonged periods.
Otherwise, would love to have it.

Who takes care of your bird while you are gone ?
Do you just fill up a large seed dish and water ?
What is "prolonged".. a week month ?

2-3 weeks 2-3/year.
This is my first bird. I never had a pet before.
It is easy for someone just to change water every couple of days. Dog takes more care.
My ex would be happy to take of the bird, but they hate dogs.

Birds are OK..

Keets are nice to start with but again the constant cheeping cheeping drove me crazy.. they can learn to whistle cat call or even sorta talk a bit..

Cockatiels are just as easy to keep and yet are able to learn more words, music etc.

Bad part of birds is when they squirt shit across the room and throw feathers and seeds all over the joint.

I have had Keets, Cockatiel and an African Grey parrot over the years.
The Grey was the best at talking etc but was a mean SOB.
