I've seen two anime films in the last few days.
The first was Fist of the North Star. There was one thing I liked about this movie, and that was the out-there, ass-kicking nature of the characters. 50-foot bad boys, fuckers made of metal...have to love that shit. But the animation was pretty crappy, and I don't know who the fuck draws humans like that, but he can't be more than 10 years old. And multiple fountains of gushing blood for every wound? Exploding heads? I don't think so. The dubbing and sound weren't anything special, either. Just a few notches too generic and childish, even for such a far out idea. You can do far better than this one.
The second work was Vampire Hunter D. In a word, this movie was amazing. It was recommended by some people here, and I can see why. The background paintings for each scene, as well as the character animation, was extremely good. The fight scenes were good, especially at the climax. And there were some great visual concepts as well...like the castle at the end. Beautiful to look at, and the soundtrack was great (the voices were fairly good, but the conversation was a bit awkward and unnatural at points). Last but not least, was an interesting story. The characters, well-drawn, were fairly kickass, but not too over the top. And they were given some depth through the use of dialogue which shed light on their histories and personalities. I haven't seen more than a few anime flicks, but this is the best of them, impressing me more than Ninja Scrolls did. If you haven't seen this one, please do.
