well i'm back from my deployment (stateside vacation, whatever u call it) and back in la! Back to rock staw Razor!

Went shopping right away. After much perusing at dpreview.com

I bought the :

CANON POWERSHOT S5 IS 8.0 MEGAPIXEL DIGITAL CAMERA

info and video here

canon_powershot_s5_is1.jpg

8Mp (wish it was 10, but it'll suffice), external lenses, HISTOGRAPH! built in screen!!, easly changeable apetures (so handy), iso speeds (handy), display of "line of thirds" grids (real handy), red-eye (tho all us pro shooters take it off), white balance, auto-set for everything from sun, night, beach, snow, forest, sports, etc.! SD/SDC cards. 4 aa's. Shoe for external fill flash. Gonna get a nice wide angle-lens (i love taking scenery, wildlife, artsy pictures), stiching, FLIP OUT TWIST lcd!

Millions of more features. This is the best camera for the buck. $400 at best buy, $50 ins., and about $300 or so for accessories. $1000 for a pro camera.

Not bad. I can use it for 1) casting calls 2) location shots 3) continuity shots 4) wardrobe shots 5) publicity stills 6) hobby use 6) vacations 7) fake pictures for ef, etc.

I'm a photoshop cs3 guru, so i can always take them and use levels, curves, heals, unsharp masks, lighting, hue/saturations, etc. - and make them look spectacular.

Me happy. I LOVE Canon products. Canon HV20 for behind the scenes hd/footage and vacations, this camera, and the almighty Canon XH A1 for film usage.

You can probably find it cheaper on ebay as well (just be careful, at best buy i can get a warranty). If u want a nice pro camera - get this.

The manual kicks arse!!!

Congrats.
I'm still lovin' my Canon Powershot S50 I bought 4 years ago. My next digicam has got to be smaller - pocket sized.

I need something that will take action shots indoors and let me save RAW images. I'd rather do the image editing myself in GIMP.

That is what I have :)

You could have used it to take a pic of my sexy ass at the Arnold. But, you only hang with the cool people.

Nice camera.

While it is not a pro camera it can do way more than the average user can handle.

I am looking for a d80 and d200 soon. Glass is key though. Spend your money on glass.

I'm still reading through the manual and playing around with it. I wanna go shopping today for a nice wide angle lens. Then take some real cool shots around Hollywood and hills.

It's overcast today, so it's perfect shooting weather.

Any advice on printing?

I think i'm gonna get that canon pictograph (?) printer, then modify in ps, then output via usb to the printer to print them out. Without losing any pixel quality in resolution, or worrying about rgb vs cmyk.

Or just dump it on a cd and take it to walmart. lol.

I'd go the walmart route for proofs, then if you really like a photo take it to a pro printer.

Overcast is really flat lighting, over expose by a 1/3 or so to bring up the contrast. or fix it in ps lol.

I miss film.

The shopping continues! Canon XH A1

$3300. This is a absolute steal. $500 warranty thrown in. DVD tutorial. 4 TAPES! Personal lesson from the guy. BAG.

And the person selling it, used it to shoot a nelly furtardo video, and for parts of dancing with the stars.

He's upgrading to a new HD-SDI DVCPROHD model, but loves this one. I talked to him for half an hour, and he's driving down to me monday in long beach to drop it off.

I'm stoked. This 24f camera rocks (sure it ain't 24p, but it's close enough).

Now i gotta buy the red rock micro m2 35mm adapter, flip module, and 20,35, 50mm canon lenses with mattebox (Another $2g yeah)

Still reading the Canon S5 1S manual. That digi camera is bad ass. You know you can record 4gb of VIDEO on it??
