8 years ago I lost a quarter million dollar account to a competitive vendor who is 10 years younger, lives in my home town, and works for a tiny outfit selling solely on low price.
With my extra free time I ended up calling on the main competitor to the account I lost and ended up sole sourcing them at around 800 grand. Eventually, my new customer drove the old customer out of business entirely and increased production giving me even more business.
So in 2009, the little prick competitor puts in a bid at the surviving account for 30% lower cost then me.
After 5 weeks of selling my ass off, my customer has just renewed my contract for another 3 years. Soon the young punk should be on unemployment.
