My Left Elbow Hurts

Singleton

New member
My left elbow hurts.

I think I did it during bench presses, but it is getting worse.

I was doing curls this morning and it really bothered me.

I'm going to get glucosamine. What else should I do?

Stop working out and go to a doctor.
It's probably tennis elbow.
I got it last year from increasing my weight too fast and lifting too much.
Fucked me up for a while. I tried to work through it but that made it just take longer to heal. It's better now, but you might need to take a few months off to let it heal depending on how bad it is.

I'm still going light in the gym in fear of messing it up again.
Also, don't take glucosamine, take anti-inflamitories (advil and stuff like that)

Thanks guys, but no thanks: I don't have a doctor!

Even if I did, s/he'd just tell me to stop working out for 6-8 weeks. NO FUKKIN' WAY would I do that!

"...Glucosamine supplementation can provide some degree of pain relief and improved function in persons who experience regular knee pain, which may be caused by prior cartilage injury and/or osteoarthritis. The trends in the results also suggest that, at a dosage of 2,000 mg per day, the majority of improvements are present after eight weeks."

My left elbow hurts too.

Might have something to do with the fact that I shattered the radial head in late January, requiring 3 screws and a pin in there.....

Anyways there isn't much cartilage in your elbow bro. The glucosamine won't hurt but it ain't gonna do jack shit. It's beneficial to knees because there is lots of cartilage in there and it is a load bearing joint.

The pain you are experiencing is 99% likely to be of tendinous origin. That's right it's called tendonitis. The only cure for tendonitis is to rest the joint. Ice packs alternated with heat, massage, ultrasound, etc. can hasten recovery but there is no cure besides time.

Don't be a macho dicckhead dude. I tried to come back too early from my injury and do bench, tricep pulldowns, etc. Stupid. You have the rest of your life to train arms. 6-8 weeks is nothing. Think of the big picture.

Sounds like a classic case of tennis elbow to me. Seek the advice of your Doctor which will probably be total rest for a period of time.

I just got over tennis elbow on my left arm, and now I have it on my right. I went and bought a brace that is supposed to help and it did. A combination of the brace, a shit load of motrin and not doing heavy curls my left elbow seems a hell of a lot better. I did not want to stop either, although that is what the doc told me to do.

Typically tendonits. DO NOT take anti inflamatories, if you need something for the pain use tylenol. Anti inflamatories will help the pain of course but will greatly interfere with healing and you will turn an annoying injury into something potentially severe. If you want to see a doc I recommend you find a prolotherapist, check prolonews.com ti find one in your area. The nice thing about prolo is it work, even if you dont stop lifting.

by the sounds of it your describing tennis elbow, which is a common injury among athletes in the gym. if you are so bent on not going to a doctor, (this includes walk in clinics if you dont have a family doctor) go to a physico doctor thye can help you and give you advice on rehab methods that if you would like does not include time off. a simple brace which they can fit you with is worn on the forarm. this coupled with advil which should bring down any swelling or inflamation yuou may be suffereing from
if you would like pm me - for a futher diagnosis.
i worked for a few years in sport injury while in med school
if you are not going to go to see a doctor fully describe the injury and what exrercises hurt the most and where. ill do my best but again remember without being able to see you my advice is only that - advice
