To hit the glutes best, do you position feet narrow or wide?
 
A wider placement will work the inner thighs a bit more....just place the feet at a medium width with toes pointed outward about 20-30 degrees. This allows a more natural retraction down to the shoulder/chest by the knees.
DO NOT use a very narrow spacing as this will limit hip flextion anf results.
